Fun fact: Tom Sturridge (Sandman) & Robert Pattinson (Batman) are childhood best friends. They went to school together in London. Rob was at The Sandman premiere after-party recently.

IIRC the rights to John Constantine himself are tied up with the DCEU. So, as many have already said, Johanna is another character altogether. She herself does appear in the Sandman comics.

This show is so good that I am a little speechless. I had to stop myself from bingeing it all at once because I knew I would be sad once it was finished. If they can keep the quality at this level, I hope it runs for several seasons.

Episode 6 is a gem and I slightly disagree with Grace about Death. Though the part was small, it was very impactful. The chemistry between the two was terrific and the actress did a great job establishing who that character is. I'd love to see a scene with Death and Lucifer. :)

Johanna Constantine is a character in the comic - so she is not a gender bender John, she is her own character :)

The LGBT diversity is straight from the comics, Gaiman deserves more credit for how progressive the comics are even by today's standards 30 years later and it's inaccurate to call Joanna a gender bent character, shes an existing character in the comic whose role was fleshed out like so many other sandman characters for this show

Episode 6 was my favourite. Loved that story in the comics and they did it great justice

The first 6 episodes were incredible imo. Episode 5 is TV perfection. But the last episodes I found quite dull, and too doom patrol-ish. I don't know why, but it lost the gritty, dark, human and philosophical approach the others had. And I didn't really like the actress of Rose (and to be honest the character wasn't very interesting either) neither the one who portrayed her brother. But overall I thought it to be a nice series. Hope there's a second season. Oh yeah and Tom Sturridge, man he is just IMPECCABLE.

I like ep 5 so much. The intrigue and acting of the ensembles top notch.

The Death episode and the one of the diner are just gems

I actually feel like Coleman caught the Constantine vibe perfectly: I'm charming on the outside, completely untrustworthy, and also tortured by guilt over the fact that everyone in my past is dead and it's my fault. That's Constantine in a nutshell. And she got that across.

The Good Omens / Sandman quality similarities make sense when you realize this is what happens when Gaiman has an active and authoritative role in the production.

This is one of those rare occasions when I actually agree with you, almost completely. YES, the marketing hasn't been all that great, episodes 7 and 8 are the weakest, but 9 and 10 actually managed to close the season on a high note (not as high as episode 5 for sure). Lucifer's hair was indeed distracting, she deserved better. I'm not an expert on The Sandman comics, but I have read plenty thanks to my older brother and I have to point out that some of the LGBT elements are also on the written page, so Gaiman deserves credit there too. Hopefully we'll get more seasons as the comics themselves get better as some people have pointed out in the comments.

Overall, The Sandman is a beautiful adaptation. It covers enough ground to provide a satisfying story, while getting you interested in the rest of the universe. PS: I LOVE that the horror elements are present.

Desire’s location was quite a piece of art. Cloud back drop and a giant posing statue. Then the beating heart. Quite a way to look at this character.

Binged the entire series at one go. It’s THAT

As the fan of the comics, I am actually really happy with what they have made so far and the Sandman gets actually amazing later on. Like book 3 onwards is more my favourite. I found some of the casting perfect. Desire, John, and Corinthian are my favourite casting followed by Dream, Lucienne, Death, Magus...and you know what, I mean, who doesn't like Jenna Coleman, so Constantine also hehe.

I would actually go to say, now having seen the Constatine episode, that the new character (because really it is a new character in a way) of Johanna Constantine (modern version) deserves a spinoff by the same writers and showrunners. The actor and the character were THAT GOOD, and there's room for that separate from the Sandman universe.

I loved the old Vertigo comics cover art. It was always weird and creepy! Maybe not the best representation of what the actual comics were, but it was different.

If we're lucky enough to get a 2nd season, I hope we see more of Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.

The original comic is hugely progressive. They did not have to add them. It was all there to begin with
