At least 45 dead in Israeli festival stampede

At least 45 people have been killed and more than 100 others injured from a stampede at a religious bonfire festival in Israel.

The chaotic scenes were captured on social media, showing thousands of ultraorthodox Jews trying to escape the crush.

The stampede occurred at the Lag B’Omer festival and over 100,000 people were in attendance making it the largest legal public gathering in Israel since the pandemic.

That is tragic, but not anywhere near the worst that has happened there in that nation's very deep history. During the Roman occupation a soldier bared his ass and farted at worshipers during the passover which triggered a riot, then the Roman legionaries used that as an excuse to murder about 10, 000 jewish people. This is a really sad reminder of the nature of chaos theory, how small triggers can induce a sudden change in a stable system and throw it into chaos. I feel very sad for the families, particularly of the children who died.
