Recent news shows Nintendo declined a deal with Epic Games to put Samus from Metroid in Fortnite. Is this representative of Nintendo being hypocritically overprotective? Given their history with takedowns and collaborations with third parties? Let's talk about it.

I prefer that than seeing samus twerk and Tbag over peter griffin’s corpse and disrespect Metroid’s legacy.
But I understand that Fortnite could make Metroid more popular either way Idc

I think that being this overprotective is one of the reasons why nintendo has 30 years plus franchises that are still relevant and almost always constantly growing, I say this because overexploiting an ip makes people tired of the franchise and that gets sales to be down or even cause the ip to die, look at the ubisoft franchises, there are many examples with them, or just look at pokemon, that's nor really in control of nintendo, just partially owned, now is just tiring and dissapointing people, and if it keeps that way it could become irrelevant. My point is that overexploiting a franchise, even in a dumb fortnite skin can tired people and even mislead what really the franchise is all about, and that goes even for the fan games. overexplotation is bad for an ip, and that's why even nintendo doesn't do it officially, imagine a world where a mainline mario game, mainline zelda game, etc, release every year, those games would be obviously rushed and with nothing innovative in them, you know, the ubisoft way, and I know there are games like that that are successfull like call of duty, fifa, etc, but, do you really want that, the copy/paste game every year.

This is the most ive ever disagreed with you.
If anything i would pat Nintendo on the back for their decision. They do not need fortnite deals. And honestly, the game is lame and toxic. Im glad Nintendo chose to keep out of it.

I feel like the fortnite audience wouldn't be enticed to start playing Metroid games by her being in fortnite. Maybe a really good Metroid show would draw in more people. The most important thing Nintendo could do for Metroid is to market the hell out of Prime 4 leading up to its release.

Protecting your IP is fine, crossovers are a gross trend

Why hipocritical? They protect their ip and i dont want to see nintendo characters on any other platform. They are exclusive and dont mix with peaseants

I could honestly careless about cameos I just want Prime 4.

Andres! You’re definitely one of my favorite Nintendo content creators but hard disagree with this one. I don’t think this would help Metroid sales @ all. Not mention, as a Nintendo Fanboy, I wouldn’t want to see any of Nintendo’s characters on another console.

I really don't care I don't like Fortnight so it doesn't bother me.

You did not make a argument for Nintendo being Hypocrites at all. All those IP holders agreed to Nintendo's terms and willingly allowed their characters to be on Smash. Nintendo had strict terms for Epic and they said no so where is the hypocrisy? Nintendo does not leverage any IP holder into collaborating with Smash, those arrangements are fully "at their discretion" if Epic was serious about getting Samus on Fortnite all they had to do was agree to Nintendo's terms. Everyone seems to be desperate to see Nintendo bend they knee to some western company I swear.

Nintendo characters live on Nintendo hardware. It is that simple.

Instead of blaming Metroids lack of success on the failed fortnite collab maybe consider it's just not the power house franchise you believe it to be. Nothin wrong with it being a little more niche than some other nintendo franchises.

Sure it could have potentially boosted sales but it's not like that happens whenever Fortnite drops an iconic character. People didn’t start buying Tomb Raider or Halo just because the main characters made it into Fort.

Nintendo IP's have more star power then any other game icons lol. Nintendo has been around for over 130 years, they know what they are doing. You don't sell your stuff out to other companies. (Disney....looking at you!!! Buying everyone's stuff and ruining it all!!!) You don't want people to take your creations and basically make fanfiction or thing that aren't canon to it, once you rent your IP' out people who are woke or have political narratives can ruin it. You respect the owner of the content you like and don't push them to smear their character over as many avenues as possible as that lowers the quality of said product. More isn't better.

I think I can confidently say that Nintendo is content with keeping Metroid relatively niche. The way they went about Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered makes it seems like they know the fans will come and their goal is not to appeal to the lowest common denominator. It’s kinda the opposite of Pikmin where it’s clear they want to market it to everyone. Metroid has always had a pedigree to it

Nintendo not throwing around their IPs is what’s making it possible for them to control the perception of their IPs. That’s how you keep them ’iconic’.

A: Fortnite would not get people into Metroid.
B: Even if it did, there are way better options to promote it than that.
C: Fortnite is soulless and Metroid would just be devalued by association.

I see this news as a win.

Lmao. Good on Nintendo. Samus don't need to be in Fortnight

No they’re not lol !
It’s their IP’s and their business model.
And guess what, it works.

More like resurface nonsense to cover up the dryness within the Nintendo gaming sphere. Like realistically Samus in fortnite would not increase Metroid stock to grand scale as you would think being a metaverse cesspool.
