I had not idea that Kodak Gold 120 was that cheap, thank you for the information!

People who don’t say Gold is kinda goated for the price need to work on their exposure and scanning. Golds only real technical flaws are its speed and how it handles florescent lights. And even those can be worked with. Yeah it’s grainer but so is Portra 800. Something gotta give. With good exposure, even at box speed and good scanning you can’t tell the difference between Gold and Portra 400 in straight daylight. For 120, where I already don’t have a lot of speed I don’t mind a stop less then.

Also the current version of Gold is a pretty modern emulsion all things considered.

I shot a lot of Gold back in the day. As a kid with very limited funds, it helped me learn a lot about the craft. Maybe it's time to revisit it and try again...

Yes -- ColorPlus in 120 would be awesome!

If you like pulp fiction books, try cheesy sci-fi movies from the 50's. There's a bunch here on YT.
Cardboard sets, men in rubber suit monsters, stiff acting, dialogue out of a second grade school play. They're lots of fun.
They often ran as a double feature at the drive-in.
Btw, Heinlein was an A-lister, in the same class as Asimov.

low-key conspiracy theory is that was started because Heinlein and L-Ron had a bet to see who could come up with the best religion

120 film can be respooled on 620 roll then used in a Kodak brownie junior camera.

Especially when shooting 6x17 where you get an astonishing four exposures per roll of 120 I am really happy with Gold 200 as an affordable alternative!

Couldn't have said it better myself. TThe comparison to pulp is perfect. Nothing too serious, just a bit of fun and a good time. Will now refer to Kodak Gold as Kodak Pulp 200. "Gonna go shoot some pulp" "Loading a roll of Pulp" A sunny Sunday afternoon is now "Pulp weather."

I love Gold 200 in 120. I often shoot it in my TLR, a Flexaret with a max shutter speed of like, 350. And you can over expose this film a bit and get absolutely great results.

Yeah Gold in 120 fucking bangs for the price imo, you don't have the same flexibility as Portra 400 but I think it looks amazing if the exposure is good

Heinlein is not low quality literature, today he is considered to be one of the best sci-fi authors who ever lived. Neat trick to have that runner disappear behing you back😮. Gold, well gold, not a bad film, I like the colors it produce, but it is no portra (which I can't afford). Right now I mainly shoot Vison3 250d - I got 2x 100ft for cheap money.

I'm old enough to remember when they sold pulp novels at the convenience store. I'd always comb through them for the sci fi books like Heinlein. But it was mostly detective or romance stories. But yeah 25 cents. By the time it went up to 35 and then 50 cents I was already discovering the early independent comic book scene.

I've currently got some Gold loaded up in my Mamiya C3, I'm really glad for a lower(ish)-price color film for 120, and its got that vibe

I think film prints are easier to keep with the negatives. I used film until 2013 when my husband bought me a digital camera. I can only one hand so I always got him to load the camera for me. The one down fall, it took so long to use the film since it was 25 prints it was OK when you bought films with 12 images. With digital cameras you have your pictures right away. The down fall is computers are always up grating and I am afraid there will be a time the earlier pictures that were taken won't be able to be shown on a modern computer. Now that my husband has passed I use my canon ELPH 190IS all the time. The pictures are amazing.

Love Gold in 120, especially in one of my Holgas.

Gold in 120 is a blessing. What other alternatives in color 120 at that price range, with similar quality? Lomo? Not bad, but Gold looks better. And the high saturation and contrast that Gold has in 35mm is less noticeable and much more workable in 120

Brrronco -- what camera did you use for the 120? Nice exposure and focus -- definitely not a Holga or Spartus Press Flash (love those!)....

Interests coalesce, StarWars old canon book club collab when? I feel like the vibe you and Alex Faciani put out there is very similar

I only shoot gold 200 in 120. Tried others and this stock is just good for this price. And I hate portra 400 colors😂
