The Spirited Man is an unlimited series about the spirited man or woman who lives inside all of us (and fixing things).

ABOUT VAN NEISTAT:
A pioneer in digital filmmaking, Van Neistat made his first internet video, The Holland Tunnel, in 2000. He went on to collaborate with New York City artist Tom Sachs, directing a series of short films shown at the Guggenheim Museum in Berlin. Van has since directed dozens more films for the Tom Sachs Studio. In 2010 HBO aired The Neistat Brothers, an 8-episode series of short videos made entirely by Van and his brother Casey Neistat. Van Neistat’s directorial debut feature, A SPACE PROGRAM, co-written by Tom Sachs, premiered at the 2015 South by Southwest Film Festival and opened in theaters nation-wide in spring, 2016. In 2018 Neistat Directed the short film Paradox Bullets, co-written with Tom Sachs, narrated by Werner Herzog, and starring Ed Rushca. Neistat has written and directed commercial projects for Nike, Hurley, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, J. Crew, Twitter, Sleepy Jones and Frances Valentine. His work has been exhibited in museums throughout the world. He lives in Topanga, California.

Being in Art school i feel that I have learned that Art is the expression of your feelings or emotional state and making something out of that to make someone else feel the same. Communicating our feelings and or human spirit. Well said Van.

Art is a form of communication. Inherently this communication is between one person and another, at its most basic level. So Van is right. It is all about the human spirit.

At the Arg Gallery of Hamilton, near where I used to live, funnily I used to call the AGHHH.. existed this art installation that was mostly 3D printed, a lot of people dismissed it for how it was fabricated, but they've completely missed the point. The creator of the art installation was created by a recent Chinese immigrant who wanted to voice their experience of their upbringing under the political regime. They expressed how cookie cutter everyone was supposed to be, represented by hundreds of 3D printed bears, but each bear was of a different colour, representing their different ambitions and essence. However being forced into different situations such as production lines or chemistry setups representing the frustrations of the creator and how their parents wanted them to be a chemist. Paying attention to this presentation, I feel their frustration.

I love this definition of art. Not only is it true it leaves no space for anything made by artificial intelligence to be considered art. I like to say that art is expression with the intent of communicating but I may like this better

Definitions of art are usually used as a way to exclude groups from whatever art is deemed as.

Basically everything is art and overall the question of what is art may be a lame question to begin with.

This is such a vague definition. If someone said a banana duct taped to a wall preserves the human spirit, that would be art as well. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying you need a better definition.
