As a person of color, I am thankful that we made it through the 50s, 60s, and 70s, albeit with some casualties along the way (Emmett Till, Martin Luther King, Malcom X, even JFK) and what I was hoping for within my own people was a black utopia where our culture would be ushering in advancements in mathematics and science; along the lines of the fictitous country Wakanda. We would have compassion towards each other and this would be a profitable and enjoyable time for all, showing the best and the brightest.

Instead, I am a black man who is borderline terrified of any young, black male under 30, who might not have been raised with the understanding that violence, crime, and imprisonment should not be heralded, respected, or tolerated. Or, if they do understand that, and choose to ignore those basic human conditions, that is where we differ...even though we look the same.

I know that this is just a horror movie but unless you've lived during a time when the police honestly did not provide you protection ✔️, when people in public actually made monkey noises (with no one saying amount in your favor) ✔️, when there were those in town who pushed others in front of you just to trip you up ✔️, where you were laughed at, mocked and shouted at just because you were "the wrong color"✔️?

You cannot understand how real some of this story is -- because some of this story WAS.

This was not "entertainment" for me.

Just something that brought back memories and broke my heart just a little bit 💔 with some of the things some people have experienced (and try to live with forgetting). 😞

Ok I want to give my take on this as a black men upon this series. So this series is a black trauma like so many others, which I’m not too fond off. However I did like at the end of the series how the family remained firm and united against the racists and didn’t leave.
