I’ve had a few people calling bullshit on this story, so if you’d like to pop over to my Instagram @rob_chappers, I will upload a short clip of proof in my Reels.

I bumped into Eric once outside the coffee shop I used to run in South London. Somehow I managed the courage to go up to him and say hi, fully expecting he'd politely brush me off and walk away. To my astonishment he stopped and took five minutes to talk to me. Eric I did invite him to come and join one of our Sunday jazz acoustic jams we used to have in the coffee shop. He respectfully declined, but gave me a one in a lifetime experience nevertheless. What an inspiration the man is.

Eric's vibrato has always been his strong point ❤

Thank you for this, , you made me feel like i was in the room with Eric too!! I have seen EC in concert 37 times since 1974, He totally changed my life with guitar and music. People may like other guitarists but for me it will always be EC.

I'm an old guy now and look back far more than forward. Eric's music was one of the touch stones throughout my life. Your enthusiasm and excitement was so genuine I was able to feel it and I thank you for that. Over the years Eric has been over taken by players who are 'technically' better but that was never what he or his music was about. IMO he did for guitarists what the Beatles did for music. He became the standard for many of the best modern players and his music always relevant. His playing was about the song and bringing it to life with feeling and emotion not showing off runs and his technical ability. He always gave credit to those before him and was always willing to help others move forward in their careers. His music was always evolving and thankfully will remain for many generations to come. Glad to see someone as skilled as you are moved by him as his music as those of us who are not. Thanks for the brief yet meaningful experience

That is an amazing once in a lifetime moment and it shouldn't surprise you too much he's watched you on YT. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and inspiring moment in your life! Eric Clapton...I'm speechless.

My most surprising guitar legend meeting… I went to see BB king back in the 90s at a large stadium in Birmingham (UK). Got there really early and was the first person in the venue with my wife. Couple of guys setting up mulling around. I sat head down reading the programme and my wife starts chatting to what I thought was a roadie - I looked up and it was only Peter Green..!! He was supporting BB. I was star struck and didn’t know what to say and she just yakked on totally oblivious to who he was. Spent easily 10mins with us, asking where we were from, where we were staying and so on really nice and charming chap, how I wish I could replay that chat now 😅

I’ve watched that Clapton guitar centre video about brownie a couple of times. It’s bending my brain realising you were there behind the camera Rob!

I saw Eric only once in my life. It was at the Fillmore West with Delaney and Bonnie way back in the day. He fired off a couple riffs checking his rig before the set. The audience screamed.

Can't believe you got to meet such an iconic guitar legend, Eric.

Hi Rob! You and I have met before at NAMM. Been loving your content for years. I cannot describe how absolutely jealous of you I am. Eric is the reason I picked up a guitar. I'd love to meet him one day and I loved hearing your story. I got to live vicariously through this video. Take care, sir!

Clapton is God, I was lucky enough to see Eric at each of the different shows during the 24 nights at the Royal Albert Hall, and subsequent nights following years, then later whilst working at the original Wembley Stadium as a steel erector during the sound check for his gig with Elton John simply stunning.
Great memories I will cherish forever 🙏🏼

Eric Clapton is my hero for much more than his music. A man with flaws who rose above them. This story is just absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing,

I wouldn't worry about the haters online calling BS. More often than not, their nobodys sitting in their bedroom who have lived such dull lives they are simply incapable of believing someone else actually has an interesting story to tell. They probably also think the earth is flat.

I was just in London in May...my wife and I specifically planned our trip to London to see Clapton at the Albert Hall on one of the four straight dates he played there this past May. A bucket list concert to see one of my guitar heroes at the venue that he has played well over 200 times now in his career ( I believe the night we saw him was number 212!!). Seeing him again next month in my home country at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. As a guitar player myself, letting up on the neck is one of my biggest challenges - I just want to mash down on that fretboard. That was a great lesson you gleaned from watching him play.

Amazing story and the insight about vibrato is so interesting. I've always wondered at how Clapton releases the neck when he vibratos. I have watched that Brownie demo at least dozens of times! Stuff like this makes the day, for me, thanks again for sharing!

Boy, Rob… The life journey you had to experience, the many times you had to reinvent yourself, and perhaps some planet alignment to allow that opportunity to happen?
Simply amazing.

I've watched that series of Clapton videos, and the behind-the-scenes story makes me appreciate them more. Thanks, Rob!

Rob. I really love and respect how real you are. You are a legend. I would love to meet Eric someday, and I would love to meet you someday. I would excitedly tell the story of either of those encounters to anyone who would listen:)
