Sean Haugh Libertarian for US Senate 2014 - On Moral Mondays

Howdy! I'm Sean Haugh, running as Libertarian for US Senate in North Carolina in 2014.
I love Moral Mondays. Mostly it's because I'm a child of the 60s and love protest for the sake of protest. I'm also a huge fan of the Constitution when it talks about our core political rights to peacefully assemble and to seek redress of grievances from our government.
It's important to ask, how is it that these protests have grown from 50 people to over 1000? How is it that they have amassed such a wide ranging coalition?
It's because my Republican opponent has played right into their hands. When confronted with protesters in the hallways, he did not invite them into his office to talk and listen. Instead he criminalized the protest, making up new rules on the fly to justify mass arrests. He has shut out the people out of the People's House so he won't be disturbed while he guts bills in the middle of the night to replace their contents with unrelated controversial measures.
Do I agree with the demands of the Moral Mondays protesters? Oh gosh no. Well, some, maybe. But it's okay for me to say, no, I won't do that. But I can try to understand the true goals behind these demands and maybe suggest some solutions that will address them while remaining true to my own principles.
Maybe we'll continue to disagree and debate. That's fine too. But I have to keep listening. My office will still take your phone call. I'll always make time to sit down and listen to citizens over a beer.
Frankly, as your US Senator, I would feel as beholden to the people who don't vote for me as those who do. It's my job to represent all the people, not just those who agree with me. Moral Monday protests will only continue to grow until the politicians recognize again that they are public servants, not elected masters.
I'm Sean Haugh, and yes! I would love to move forward together with you.
