When I was young I didn’t understand or like this film at all. As I got older I realised this is a exceptional film. It’s an important work and captured the eighties epoch. Douglas announced himself as a heavyweight actor who created one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history.

Gekko tells him to 1500 july 50 calls and then buy 1000 block shares because the call has a strike price of 50 and expiring in July, buying 1000 block shares will push the stock price till the strike price, then giving action to his friends will drive the stock price even higher above 50 making Gekko's call options "in the money". So, Gekko will be able to buy Anacott Steel stocks at the strike rate which will be much cheaper than the market price.

The way douglas/ gekko delivers the line " you tell the man, blue horseshue loves anacot steel." is chilling. Superb stuff from an awesome 80's classic.

This is still one of the best films made (imo). Oliver Stone's father was a stockbroker and the film was made shortly after some notable 'Corporate raiders' or 'Asset strippers' were jailed for Insider Dealing.

I used to work at the NYSE with all those traders. All retired or dead by now, some were there since the 1950s

You tell the man; BLUE HORSESHOE loves Anacott Steel.

Am I the only one who gets CHILLS when he says this?
Douglas' performance is among the most charismatic in history.
Gordon Gekko is just as remembered as Vito Corleone, from Brando's justly famous portrayal.

Its amazing they traded back in the day. Now, you can analyze charts and order trades with a cellphone while sitting on the toilet.

Edit: The analysis I was thinking was Technical Analysis using candlestick charts with and indicator or two. I doubt it a brick phone from the 1980's can display something like that.

Not only was Gordon Gekko Insider trading he was also illegally inflating the price of the stock by getting Bud Fox to contact the Wall Street Chronicle and intimating that there would be a takeover/buy out before Sir Larry Wildman announced his offer. By leaking the news like that it would have the effect of lifting the price substantially overnight.

I watched this movie decided business was the way for my career to go. I couldn’t wait to be wearing a suit everyday. I loved art, and movies, and writing but this pulled me in. I still watch this scene and get excited.

Worst decision I made. In college I developed “morality” and realized this wasn’t that appealing anymore. Couldn’t afford to change majors. First job out of college paid me $4.50an hour. I think I’ve worn a tie for maybe 3 months since then.

The actuall sequel to Wallstreet wasn't in 2010 but was in 1996 in a movie called The Arrival.
If you've got your eye on the ball, you'll see why.

1:10 Charlie sheen's character buys 10000 ANC at 46. That's 460, 000 invested, a massive long trade.
