“The race is too hard for women.”

Lazarus Lake, the founder of the Barkley Marathons, telling a documentary crew a few years back why a woman had never finished his race. This year, Jasmin Paris became the first woman to finish the event, which many consider to be the toughest endurance challenge in the world.

If you understand Laz, you realise that this is his style of stand-up comedy.
Like his ludicrous entry rules (send in a car number plate etc.) and the lighting of a cigarette instead of a starting gun or whistle.
Him saying this made the triumph all the sweeter for Jasmin Paris.

Not tough enough to do it? With that thought process, he hasn’t “wasted” many entries on women, thus not giving them the same chance as the guys to succeed or fail based on their individual merit. By my very rough math, since 1989 when it went to 100 miles, roughly 1, 200 people have been allowed to try- and less than 200 of those were women. This year he allowed a higher percentage of women, and one finished. This is a beast of a race that defeats even world champions, regardless of gender. Give the ladies a shot, Laz!

In another clip he speaks of hoping to see a woman finish. It's probably best not to judge one's character by a YouTube short (in case you somehow haven't learned that yet).
