Customized vans in the 70s and 80s was a very popular trend! Some were very basic while many included extremely elaborate artwork and paint schemes! Incredible interiors topped it off! Who had/has one?

A couple of my high school friends had vans in the early 70's. Fond memories of going surfing with them. They played either Led Zeppelin of Black Sabbath wide

Yeah, the 70s were like a mad art show on wheels! You never knew what vision you'd see rolling down the road, but you just knew it would be rolling on Cragar's. 😎

The vans back then weren't the only thing with lots of carpet on it

I grew up in my Dad's bodyshop since I was 8 years old (1976). Ocean State custom vans was right around the corner. During the day I would sneak over there and watch them airbrush Star Wars on the sides of Van's. I was blown away. Now I'm 55 and still working in the bodyshop, pretty awesome life if you ask me.

I had a '76 chevy short box van. All decked out. They were works of art. Absolutely beautiful. Vanners were a brotherhood.

All my buddies had a shaggen wagon. Used them for camping and shagging. My future father in-law hated mine. Lol. Still married to his daughter 45 years later. I wish people would start building these useful and cool vans again.

I did these conversions back in the late 70's when I started my Auto body/Collision repair journey. A small shop north of Toronto.
Retired in 2024 in Toronto. What a ride.

Humpin wagons as they were referred to in my day. Dads feared when I picked up their daughters in my 75 Ford E-150 cargo van and custom bed in the back. Rolled a lot of miles in it and partied hard in that beast. Paid $2500 for it in 77 and bought a screw gun, sabre saw and staple gun from Sears and customized the interior myself. 3 on the tree with a 351 it was Badass. Installed a Venturi vent on the roof, wide tires and custom wheels and grill, overhead console with CB, Pioneer Supertuner, Marantz power booster, Jensen triaxials in the rear, coaxials in front, she was rocking in more ways than one, captain chairs and yards of shag. Most of my friends had custom vans in High school in the late 70's, good times. Married started the family in the 80's, sold it and bought an Aerostar just wasn't the same.

Takes me back. I had a 1977 GMC Vandura. Port hole windows, carpet on floor walls and ceiling, sink, bed, ice box and cassette toilet. I did all the work. Drove it cross country. Simpler times.

This is Bob. I used to work for wolfye vans out of Atlanta ga. They started out in macon ga. My dad's aunt and cousin owned the business. I remembered selling the different windows roof racks running boards fender flares seats and pedestals. Etc. And i was only 17 years old. Lol. Was a great time. My dad customized 2 vans himself but it was just the interiors.

The last van on the video is great looking. I always liked that style of Ford. I grew up in the seventies, and remember quite well the custom vans. I remember the guys who were good at carpentry always had the best interiors. Everyone had the chrome chain steering wheel, with the foot gas pedal. Thanks for posting the video, it really brings back a lot of memories.
