The only cheap western food in Asia is one where it in itself is also street food. Jam toast, for example, is a very popular nightly food in Indonesia, and they are priced standard around $1-2 depending on amount and filling.

Indonesian food is dope. Loved basically everything I had there. No matter if it was streetfood that was literally cooked on the ground, from a cart, a little place on the corner or in some half-professional restaurants… people love their cooking and therefore they do it with passion.

Took a cooking class there as well and the lady giving the class was an endless source of culinary knowledge.

Its because here in asian going to restaurants or just eating out in general is considered luxury tis why a whole chicken may only cost 2 dollars but in restaurants its 15
