How does becoming a teenager affect our emotions?

Licensed therapist Jonathan Decker and filmmaker Alan Seawright are taking a field trip to Pixar! Yes, you read that right! A couple of months ago, Jonathan and Alan got to preview the first 35 minutes of Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 and talk to some of the geniuses behind the film. This time, they are the guests, and their hosts are director, Kelsey Mann, and producer, Mark Nielsen, of Inside Out 2. Together, they watch scenes and talk about the filmmaking process as well as the new Emotions who arrive on the scene as Riley enters puberty and navigates becoming a teenager.

The little detail that stuck out to me was that Fear was almost immediately on board with Anxiety. Fear and anxiety frequently go hand in hand, frolicking in a meadow of the worst possible outcomes, with sadness or anger following close behind

"I don't know how to stop Anxiety. Maybe this is what happens when you grow up. You feel less joy."
Don't bottle up your emotions, nor allow the emotions to control you.
Both "Inside Out" and "Inside Out 2" should be watched by parents with their children on a regular basis.

Small detail, but I really like the transition from "personality islands" to a more interwoven Sense of Self. When we're younger we tend to base our identities on a handful of traits and priorities (I.e. the islands) but as we grow up things get more interconnected and nuanced

I found the Emotions' bunkbeds so adorable and once again it expresses their character as the emotion they each represent like Fear sleeps with a teddybear as something to keep tucked close to him for safety, Disgust sleeps like she wants to wake up NOT feeling disgusting so she's having her beauty-sleep, Anger's moving in his sleep like's he's fighting someone, Sadness looks more curled into herself like it's a self-soothing tactic and Joy just look like she's just deep into dreamland contently.

Hey guys, sorry for the last second re-upload. Had a little copyright issue, but we got it all worked out with Disney/Pixar, and we're ready to go for tomorrow morning!

Oh boy! Watching Anxiety work triggered my anxiety! The whole time I was like "DO NOT LET ANXIETY DRIVE!" This is gonna be a good movie for sure.

17:31 i just realized what a great parallel these scenes are: Riley anxiously fangirls as she meets her idol, and then Anxiety fangirls over HER idol (Joy) and is equally awkward because she's anxious!

As a person with anxiety disorder the panic attack scene hit so close to home, I teared up in the theater. That first panic attack you never forget it, they’re rough

Seen it twice already, and I have to say that Pixar nailed the portrayal of Anxiety. I've always loved the first movie, but as someone with pretty bad anxiety, the second movie REALLY resonated with me.

My 13 year old son wants so bad to work for Disney. He insisted we stay and watch the credits and he says one day we will see his name on the screen. He wanted to thank all the amazing people who made this beautiful movie. So cool you got to be there!

Inside Out completely shaped the way i viewed and processed emotions as little kid. So much that i still use it as a template as an adult. To say that im excited for this movie would be the understatement of the century lol.

You know what makes me happy?
Seeing how our 2 Internet Dads came from "We're just 2 guys watching movies, talking about them and the psychological themes in them" to "We're inside Pixar!" in a dream come true like scenario :D
And even better: They did it while staying the positive and joyful guys they have been from the beginning!
Of course, without the people behind the camera working hard as well this would probably not have come to be, so I just want to thank ALL you people for doing what you are doing :)
You are amazing!

I took my daughter to see Inside Out 2; she (at age 4) was already making connections to her emotions and going “when I’m older I get new ones. I (will) be different” which I was just blown away at her understanding. My second take away was as a former teenage girl, I felt extremely seen!

Go see inside out 2!

I’m SO HAPPY that they made all the characters look out for Riley, because it is true, that these emotions are all there to help, just don’t know how yet. Especially at this stage in life. Such a good movie

Child therapist here, had a conversation with a child who we’ve talked about core beliefs and they identified how the movie put that in better perspective and helped to understand it more. Love these movies, please Pixar, make more!

I have a ten year old daughter, and I kind of feel like 10 is the new 13. She definitely has the enormous emotions of puberty already, and I’m expecting to identify with this movie so much.

There's a short glimpse in the mid credits where in the minds of Riley's parents their anxiety popped back in and the beautiful thing about it was they just welcomed anxiety and calmed it right down. Showing that when we get older we learn to deal with anxiety and just let them be and don't let them get too ahead of themselves.

I love how Anxiety reacts to Joy like Riley reacts to Val.
