In this program, world-renowned author and professor Bryan Magee and Hilary Putnam of Harvard examine current philosophical thought that dismisses the primacy and infallibility of mathematical logic and the scientific method. The greatest philosopher of mathematics & science -- hands down -- is Jacob Klein. He is almost totally unknown in mainstream academics.

Those few in the know ....

Was there an era where millions of people watched this tv show? If so, maybe Idiocracy is more accurate than I could ever have feared

Science = rigor. Logic is a subset of science which describes relationships that always replicates. Math is a subset of logic that deals exclusively with relations of quantity. Quantity is recursive boundary conditions. Math, like all languages, is descriptive.

If only the dogmaticians of today had a tenth of such self-awareness, and circumspection as this! It strikes me that in so many ways people today have regressed.

Bryan Magee: "This leads us to a very fundamental question..."
Me: Uh-oh
Bryan Magee: "and that is what is truth?"
Me: Oh man

Science can’t be wrong, what could be wrong are the methods used, or the interpretations of the results obtained. Personally, and Im not a physicist, but the extensive reading I’ve done on Quantum Mechanics, I think the results of the double slit experiment, which has been repeated several times, are very clear. Particles are waves until measured. The problem is that it completely shatters the notion of what reality is, and of what really exists!

21:20 How _is_ it a "fact" that "Hitler was a bad man" or that "Farrah Fawcett Majors is a beautiful woman"? If someone says "I think Hitler was a good man" or "I find Farrah Fawcett ugly", how exactly are you going to _prove_ that they are _factually_ wrong? Will you not simply have to defer to (currently) popular opinion?
