This week's video lesson is "YYZ," by Rush played by the legend that is Geddy Lee. This is a great riff for working on your technique fundamentals as we work through the hurdles you're likely to face in both hands!

This song is so hard to play at the recorded tempo! One of these days I'm going to get my act together and learn it for real.

All of the members of Rush are so incredibly talented. Be it on their instruments or in their lyrical poetry.

That is some clean 140 bpm fingerstyle. You are a Damm good player. Geddy Lee is not a player easily emulated. Thank you for the slowed down versions. And your valuable teaching.

Smooth playing. YYZ is a killer song from Rush!!!

The trick is all in the right hand. It's not all alternating finger picking, but once you have the picking pattern it's fairly easy to play.

Do this for that bad ass fill Geddy does on that first pause!

this part is really not so difficult if you are an intermediate level bassist. The main problem is the little "solo" phrases Geddy does during the song... When I play this song I must be in good shape to not making mistakes during the execution

Each member of rush knew their respected instrument like the back of their hand. All of them totally eat at what they do

You're missing a sixteenth note in the beginning

It's actually at 160 I've listened to this song trillions of times and the 140 bmp drums were still a bit to slow like I can hear especially transitioning into the next part

I'm pretty comfortable around 120. They should have stopped there.

I don't think Geddy ever got proper recognition for his bass skills. Overshadowed by the great Neil Peart on drums, and by Leifson on guitar. (prob. misspelled either Neil or Leifson there; sue me). The focus, for good or bad, was always on vocals when it came to Geddy.

Even though I’ve been playing and singing Geddy since 1981.
I still don’t know what he’s playing in the first 2 of the 3 runs.
