Space isn't cold, it's empty. They are NOT the same thing. If you were dumped out an airlock in space, you would not immediately freeze, as is commonly believed. There's nowhere for your body heat to go, so you would only lose it as fast as you could radiate it away. Which isn't very fast. You would freeze WAY faster in Antarctica than in space, because your body heat would transfer to the much colder surroundings until there was equilibrium.

I searched looking for an answer to this. Yesterday, in March, the sun was out and there was a cold northerly wind - yet if shielded from the wind the sun was very hot on you - Max temp was 15c. The next day, identical weather, full blue skys with brillant sunshine but NO cold wind. Yet when shielded from what air movement there was and standing in direct sunshine, it felt cold and only got to 8c. How can this be, I thought suns heat was radiated like infra red - If dates, wind, location taken from the scenario how can these temps not be warm

Only problems with the moon elevator are asteroids/comets/space junk and the fact that the moon is slowly moving away from earth.
