"If it's not broke, don't fix it" is VERY wise advice in regards to curriculum. And yes, sometimes you need to go with a program that WORKS over something that kids get excited about. We also initially had the hardback Writing With Ease guide and that was not a good fit for us, either. The workbook makes it much easier to implement.

Bob books pre reading set and the gentle and classical preschool (I rearranged the units quite a bit) worked pretty well for our first year.

Our winning curriculum pick for the last 3 years in a row has been The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts. Love it!

We also really liked All About Reading. She has been moving slow through it (all year of Kindergarten for level one), but she loves the activities and colorful readers.
Build Your Library was a big success for us. She liked all the books for level 0 and now we are doing prehistory. I added a bunch of the stuff you recommended and some books from other videos I found. She has loved it so much she’s asking to do multiple days of reading at once or reading the school books at bedtime. We are just moving into the Ice Age and it’s been so much fun!
I also got the logic stuff at Critical Thinking Co from your recommendation and they are the only worksheets she doesn’t complain about doing. So thanks for putting us onto that!

I’d love to know your thoughts on the new Singapore primary math. It seems like it has more STEM ideas in it which is interesting. Would you think about switching or do you think you’ll stick to the old edition?

Do you have any videos on the Singapore Live program? I was so excited to start US Primary with my daughter this year but I'm a bit overwhelmed now just few lessons. Her program seems awesome just from glancing through her website for a few minutes.

Thanks! These all sound wonderful! We are doing LOE now but I was so close to getting All About Reading. We will see how it goes.

Have you done a review video on the Scott Foresman Dnealian workbook? Would love to see the inside of that, please and how you're using it. Thanks!

Loved these videos of ones that didn’t work and ones that did! I have tried quite a few curriculums now that haven’t worked out. Lol e used the dnelian handwriting for cursive this year! I have both text and workbooks and I think that was a bit much to try and keep straight. I liked it but are trying something new next year. May come back who knows! I’m excited about next year, trying TGTB science units, handwriting and math for K and 4th. My older ones use Teaching Textbooks, and we have landed with Notgrass for history. Also trying EIW for English with my older kids next year, and am praying it works well for us. English is my hardest subject! Also have AAR1 and Explode the code in addition to TGTB LA k that I’ll be experimenting with them all. lol

I'm sure you have said, but your son found the cursive too tough? I had considered doing LOE and the concepts behind doing cursive first made sense. However, it seemed like cursive might be easier once there is more fine motor development. We also dont know if we will homeschool long term, so in a way it makes sense to me to do manuscript first since that's what they use in public (if we were to ever transfer her there).

Curious about Artistic Pursuits. I am in the market for a fun art program that is more than junky crafts to toss. Is this program leveled? Interested in any info you can share. Thanks!

Now that your kids are older, would you still recommend the same things for a 5/6 year old?

Love the new intro! We took your advice and used quite a few logic books this year and they are, as my son says, the best part of school! We loved, for the second year, The Good and The Beautiful language arts. I know it isn’t for everyone but it made my life easy. Looking forward to next weeks curriculum video 🎉

I love those d’nealian handwriting books too! I’ve never seen it in any YouTube channel I taught Kindergarten for 6 years and taught the d’nealian font as well. It’s great if you’re planning on eventually going to do cursive.
