• UPDATE (May 2023): The new elevator is now running, and the last remaining one was shut down on 15 June for replacement. RIP :(

I came here again in early 2023 and found out that these iconic scenic elevators were going to be replaced by Fujitec, so I had to do a final video of these before they're gone. The left hand car was the first to be replaced, and completed in May. The last remaining one was shut down on 15 May, officially ending their 40+ years of lifespan.

However these weren't entirely original btw. In fact, they were originally installed in the early 1980s and had been modernized in 1999 along with the rest of the elevators in the building. In the 2000s the car interior was slightly refurbished to make it more clean and shopper friendly. Surprisingly the unique custom landing floor indicators survived after the mod. These are so unique and have not been seen anywhere else other than here. Unfortunately by the time I was there the indicator wasn't working properly, with the blocks didn't show the car's actual position. Now these indicators are gone and replaced with boring modern LCD displays :(

The new elevator now feature a simple square cab which obviously looks very boring and uninspiring compared to the old unique rocket shaped cab. Why couldn't they just keep the old cab instead? The new one looks so...boring! Very disappointing!

Sad to see these elevators have been replaced as these were the first Fujitec I've ever ridden.

I also just realised that for the installation year you wrote 1981, it’s 1982 btw. According to newspaper articles the occupation permit for the “first phase” of the mall was only given in November/December 1982 and most of the mall opened in early 1983, so most of the lift parts should’ve been manufactured within 1982 itself and the very earliest the lift could’ve possibly completed installation is in 3Q1982. The apartments portion was completed in 1983.
The Fujitec technicians also confirmed the original dot matrix indicators are original from 1982 and were wired into the new controllers so it’s very sad they aren’t being kept during the replacement. There was 1980s footage which I found in some documentary which showed the exterior indicators of the 2 lifts as well.

Let's be real, many companies now can't get creative with cab designs, can they? Miss the old era where OTIS, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, and GoldStar offered circular, hexagonal, or octagonal cabs.

Now the only "out of the box" new scenic installations so far we've seen in Indonesia is the TKEs at Gajah Mada Plaza. The Grand Diamond Hotel in Yogyakarta, formerly GQ, also has similar cabs, but they are....Pillar instead.
