The pitot tubes measure indicated airspeed (IAS) then the indication is calibrated such that at standard conditions: a pressure of 29.92 inches HG, or 1013.25 hectopascal and 15°C temperature the density is 1.225 kg/m³. At those conditions the indicated airspeed is called calibrated airspeed. (CAS) Then the true airspeed (TAS) is calculated on a flight computer.
The difference is substantial, at 12000 feet and -9°C the correction factor is exactly 1.200 .
There the True airspeed (TAS) is 1.200 times HIGHER than CAS .
The Mach number is defined as the True airspeed divided by the speed of sound.
Every pilot has to learn to do this calculation.

Pitot tubes can get clogged with ice even bugs usually they are redundant ⚓
