Inspector In A Box Asbestos Test | Old Sheet Flooring Test & Results

My old house has some suspicious sheet flooring. I ordered myself an Inspector in a Box and got my flooring sampled and results back. It's not fully DIY, since you have to send in your sample and ya know... a lab has to test them. But it's better than disturbing dangerous material and creating a hazardous wasteland in your home.

The face mask in this video does not provide protection against asbestos fibers. At the minimum, you need a half-face respirator (tight-fitting) with P100 cartridges. You need to make sure your samples are representative of all suspect materials that may be disturbed by the renovation. The backing and mastic of the sheet flooring might also be asbestos-containing materials (ACM).

We have that same floor in a rental and after all I've seen online, I don't even want to waste money to test it. Also on Inspectapedia, it says that a lot of labs don't detect the powdered asbestos in those vinyl sheets. So it really could contain like 70-80% asbestos...and all in tiny fibers the average abatement vac used doesn't even pick up...Unfortunately, we already disturbed several feet of the floor, so now we just hope and pray...And have to pay someone to clean it...And sell...

That felt paper underneath can have asbestos, and the top layer of floor can also even if it’s newer, if it is imported other countries still allow asbestos use, I know a union asbestos remover, and he says 30% of the time after they remove asbestos flooring, floors with asbestos are put back in.
