A shot of espresso isn’t just defined by the strength, but also the quality of its extraction.

Fine-tuning the shot settings on your Dual Boiler™ will allow you to perfect your coffee extraction and adjust the taste and flavors of your espresso. As well as adjusting the shot volume and duration, sometimes it might be necessary to change the temperature of the water that brews your shot, so that it allows the extracted shot to deliver the right flavors that aren’t too acidic or harsh on the palate.

Directions on adjusting the shot volume (00:02):
1. Press the ‘Menu’ button until the shot volume flashes and either ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ is displayed.
2. You will then need to dose and tamp the portafilter with ground coffee and insert it into the group head.
3. Press either the ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ button, depending on the cup you would like to reprogram and allow it to start releasing a shot.
4. Once the desired coffee volume extraction has been required, press the ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ button again to confirm the espresso volume.

Directions on adjusting the shot duration (00:48):
1. To adjust the shot duration, you need to begin by pressing the ‘Menu’ button until ‘Shot Voll’ is displayed, and either press ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ depending on the one you would like to change.
2. Next, without the portafilter in place, select ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ once more and start the water flow from the group head.
3. Now the water has begun to flow, you must press the ‘1-cup’ or ‘2-cup’ button again once the shot duration time has been reached.
4. The machine will beep twice to indicate the new shot duration has been set.

Directions on adjusting the shot temperature (01:20):
1. Press the ‘Menu’ button until ‘Shot Temp’ flashes. The LCD will show the current shot temperature.
2. To change the temperature, press the ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ buttons on the machine.
3. It is important to note that the default temperature is set to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, although it can be changed to any temperature between 190 degrees Fahrenheit to 205 degrees Fahrenheit. We recommend a temperature range of 194-203 degrees Fahrenheit for optimum temperature, but the optimum temperature will ultimately depend on the origin of the beans and the degree of roast.
4. Once you have reached your desired temperature, press the exit button. The machine will beep once to confirm the setting.
5. As a general guide, if the espresso tastes sour, increase the temperature and if it is tasting ashy, lower the temperature.
