Can I get paid to be a caregiver?

Im sure there are some benifits but be sure to read the fine print. I have been looking after my aunt for about 5 years now. She is in a retirement home but still needs things like rides to medical appointments, the odd trip to a store for an outing etc.
I asked my accountant about benefits for me, not for any money but for maybe a tax benefit. I spend about $500/ a yr on fuel alone. A typical trip is around 130 kms round trip ( she lives about an hour away) . He says the max is $5000/ yr tax benifit and he thought I qualified. Turns out, she had not done a tax return in the 5 years. Since I took over her financial management last year and tried to file her 5 years it turns out she earns almost $30 k in pensions so I don’t qualify because she should be able to afford such services. This is what the CRA in Canada says, so I’m just saying check with your IRS there and see if the laws are similar
