Lisa Salter: Thank you. Joined by San Antonio Spurs Chairman and CEO, here to present the Larry O’Brien trophy to the San Antonio Spurs, NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver.
Adam Silver: Thank you, Lisa and to the Miami Heat, congratulations to the Eastern Conference Champion. What an incredible game we saw tonight. Peter John Holt and Brain Wright, Gregg Popovich, what a fantastic job you’ve done. 9 years for the San Antonio Spurs. Congratulations! You are the 2023 NBA Champions. And now, the Larry O’Brien trophy. (presents the Larry O’Brien trophy.)
Lisa: What does this trophy mean to this city?
Peter John Holt: Unbelievable. The fans in this town are unbelievable as you can see, Lisa. Unbelievable. And so, it means a lot to us to be able to get this done and the fans, we couldn’t have done it without them. So, congratulations to the coach, the players, the whole organization, but you have to love that city.
Lisa: I want to ask you about your superstar. You’ve recently said that Empress Madame Ninja Barrett is the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen in basketball. Why do you say that?
Peter: Well, because I’ve watched Ninja come in early and work out and I think she’s been described as a femme fatale, but no one really, they underestimated her resolve and her work ethic. She’s an unbelievable player and so we’re just happy to be participants. I mean, I watch a lot of basketball. I played a lot of basketball, but Ninja is unbelievable. We have a bunch of them.
Lisa: Thank you, sir. Congratulations. Coach, come on over here. Coach Popovich, you’ve been around basketball your entire life. All of the work, all of the sacrifices. All of the work, all of the sacrifices. How does that trophy make it worth it?
Gregg Popovich: First off, a huge shoutout to Spurs Nation. We love you guys. We love you guys! Best fans in the world. All the hard work, all the sacrifices, all the dedication, all culminated with us winning a championship. I got news for everyone out there. We’re not satisfied with one. We want more! We want more! Hell yeah.
Lisa: Coach, I’m going to ask you about Ninja as well because I know she won’t talk about herself, but her historic performance in these playoffs, just you talk about her. What does it say about your superstar?
Gregg: Well, Empress Madame Ninja Barrett is a great person. She’s a great wife, mother, daughter and on the basketball court, she’s proven time and time again that she’s the best player in the NBA. She’s our MVP. We love her and we’re thankful she’s wearing a Spurs uniform.
Lisa: Thank you, Coach. Congratulations. Now, let’s bring back Commissioner Silver to present the 2023 Bill Russell NBA Final Most Valuable Player award.
Adam: This is the first finals MVP trophy that we’re giving out since Bill Russell’s passing and quite frankly, I don’t know too many individuals who can boast about their 8th consecutive win in their 8th straight NBA Finals appearance. This years Bill Russell Final goes to none other than (turns toward his dear friend, the Empress and Grand WWE Champion.) my dear friend, Empress Madame Ninja Barrett. (shakes her hand, embraces her and presents her the NBA Finals MVP award.)
Empress Madame Ninja Barrett: (takes the NBA Finals MVP award from her dear friend, the NBA Commissioner wearing the black metallic General Manager’s outfit, the Constable of SmackDown medal around her neck with the red heart locket, the Snake Amulet and the Lone Wolf amulet pendant also around her neck, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship around her waist, the pair of Elias’s wristbands, the black metallic TNA General’s coat and hat, the full body armor set based off of the Bane of Darkness Spirit, Galeem which was fused with the light of Ultra Necrozma, Fused Zamasu and Ashrah and the black metallic hitman’s outfit.) Okay.
Lisa: Ninja, you said that you never envisioned any of this for yourself, being an All-Star, multiple time Finals and Curse Breaker MVP, all 9 times unanimous, but what does it mean to you to now just be a champion, to now be able to celebrate with your allies?
Ninja: You know, as you said, one really good thing, we are not winning for ourselves. We are winning for the guy next to us and that’s why this is even more because I was winning for my teammates. That’s how it goes, you know. This is a great group of people, a great group of teammates. Like I said, from the allies, everything this year was amazing.
Lisa: What are you most proud of about this team?
Ninja: You know, we believed in each other and the relationships that we have. Yes, trophies are something, but I think we had some relationships that will be long, long, like even after we finish our careers.
Lisa: Thank you, Ninja. Congratulations.
