I would suggest using only distilled water or any water that has been filtered. I would assume that if you use tap water the solution will react with we minerals in tap water, especially if your water has alot if rust.

I did this to my Nike air max and I realise the soap get through the cloth side and the inside of the shoes gets very soapy. Do I leave the soap to dry or will I have to rinse my entire pair of shoes under the tap now?
