It's finding a note and some notes sound better higher or it's sometimes shown by a choir leader as an example how to sing. There is few ways of doing this - getting a professional choir with musical education or getting freestyle sing off artists. Sometime ago for choir leader it was true bravery choice accepting somebody less experienced because of never before being a singer.
