If you need to shift a mixture of goods and people, and you like your creature comforts, the new Mercedes-Benz Vito 116 Crew Cab could well fit the bill. Let's take a closer look.

For 2021 Benz's medium van platform has come in for a facelift, with a streamlined model line-up receiving an array of largely tech-centred updates.

The Vito family spans three wheelbases, three power ratings, and van and crew cab models. Ten are on offer in all, starting from the entry-level Vito 111 van – a short-wheelbase, front-drive manual – culminating in the long-wheelbase, rear-drive Vito 119 Crew Cab.

Our test vehicle then, a LWB Vito 116 Crew Cab, falls towards the higher end of the range.

It has the mid-spec engine rating but is fitted with over $7000-worth of options, including prestige paint, a load bay bulkhead, adaptive cruise control and colour-coded bumpers, just to name a few.

Amazes me Mercedes don’t have a tailgate that lifts up and retracts back over the roof for fork lift access. I have a Vito 119 with barn doors because I need fork lift access, but couldn’t get LED driving lights because the wiring is different on vans with barn doors. Crazy.
They could save a lot of money by just having a better tailgate that allows forklift access and could completely do away with barn doors and the associated costs with the manufacturing of them.
