The drummer, John Barbata, created and played some of the most tasteful and unique drum fills of that time. Both he and Dino Danelli were two of the most creative and unique drummers of that time, who added so much to their respective bands...The Turtles and The Rascals.

When my niece got married 10 years, she was 30. When the wedding party walked down the aisle, she & her soon to be hubby had this playing. I have no idea how they found the song. I love it!

Love how the trumpet is still going even after Mark Volman's already put the instrument down in the closing moments ;-)

One of my favorite groups of the '60's! Love their happy carefree sound! The Turtles made two appearances on the Sullivan show. On this first appearance, they sang "Happy Together" and "She'd Rather Be with Me", the latter of which has already been posted, and is really fantastic too! "Happy Together" went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and was written by Garry Bonner & Alan Gordon. Fantastic post! Also, I've wanted to mention this for a while, to anyone who is interested, I'm the same Tom Smith who has been posting comments since near the start of the channel. When YT changed the handles, I chose Tom Elvis Smith as my new one because I thought it sounded more memorable than plain Tom Smith. :)

I was a 10 y/o boy when I seen this on the Ed Sullivan show and lived in the country near Lodi California. We watch this show on a Philco color TV then and now I'm 67 y/o in 2024. It's one of songs I sing with in my mind when I'm with friends wherever I go to.

Shout out to Jim Pons, shown in white sweater at 1:30, background vocals and acoustic/bass guitar.
He started in garage band The Leaves ("Hey Joe") Turtles from
1967--1970, in Frank Zappa Mothers of Invention in 1971, and
with Flo and Eddie from 1971--
1973. He is 80 years old, still doing fine!!!
