IHME Researcher Kate Causey describes how to use the first-ever Rehabilitation Need Estimator Visualization Tool, created in a partnership between the Institute for Health Metrics and Organization and the World Health Organization.

1 in 3 people today are estimated to be living with a health condition that benefits from rehabilitation. This visualization tool accompanies the first study to produce a global estimate of the need for rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation is not a service for the few. This challenges the stereotypical view of rehabilitation as a specialized service. Rehabilitation needs to be an integral part of the whole health system–and especially in primary health care–to reach more people in need. We partnered with the World Health Organization to help strengthen and improve rehabilitation services through better data and evidence.

The Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation is an independent population health research center at UW Medicine, part of the University of Washington, that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world's most important health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME makes this information freely available so that policymakers have the evidence they need to make informed decisions about how to allocate resources to best improve population health.
