Fern Canyon Is California's Best Family Friendly Hike

It’s essential to note that reservations are required to access Fern Canyon Trailhead between May 15 and September 15. With a daily Admittance of 150 vehicles, you must secure your reservation online well before visiting. With 100 spots released in advance and 50 released the day before your visit. Please keep in mind that this info We’ll link the reservation page in the details.

If you don’t get a reservation, you can still hike into Fern Canyon. But we wouldn’t try it with kids because it’s a 10.4-mile round-trip from the Prairie Creek Visitor Center. Outside of the summer months, you won’t need a reservation.

Even with the reservation system, a visit to Fern Canyon is 100% worth it. It’s one of California’s most beautiful hikes and easily the best family-friendly hikes we’ve ever been on.

Does Fern Canyon allow dogs?
No. Dogs aren’t allowed on the trails inside Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. But if they are on a leash, they are allowed on the beach, campgrounds, parking lots, and roads.
