that period of time, mid 80's was really harsh and literally I almost died from my addictions to crystal meth and alcohol. This song came out when I needed a good one. I used to cry while listening because I missed my old life so much. I got clean and sober a while later and I've never looked back longingly to those days. So glad this song helped me choose life.

I've loved this one since I was little. For me it is about finding contentment and even joy in life after dogged perseverance you didn't think you'd live through. If anything recorded in the 20th century deserves to live beyond its day, this is one of those songs.
