The 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum ($59,990 in Canada, $52,350 in the US) is the first Crown to be sold on North American shores after a long hiatus that stretches back to the early 70’s. Powered by a hybrid AWD system called HYBRID MAX, the 2.4L turbo Platinum trim Crown is capable of an estimated 340 horsepower and 400 lb ft of torque. But don’t let the respectable power numbers fool you. The Crown aims to provide a comfortable and quiet cabin for its passengers, while also being mindful of fuel efficiency. But does it achieve this goal? And how is it to live with? Thomas and James are excited to dive into this new addition to Toyota’s lineup in North America. We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE!

Huge thank you to @hktaxitoronto for letting us feature his Crown!

You guys already have some of the most entertaining intro sequences of any car review channel, but the historical Toyota “crown” montage was one of the best you’ve done.

The crown is whatever it needs to be at that moment

I own an 81 Toyota Crown Royal Saloon. It has automatic central locking, dual zone climate control, rear seat stereo controls, and a fridge in the parcel shelf, among many other things. It was way ahead of it's time and is classic chintzy Japanese 80's luxury at its absolute finest.

I’m a car salesman for Toyota. These reviews you guys do are super helpful to me! I can’t wait to test drive one myself. I have a feeling everything said in this video is going to be true about it. It definitely appeals to the Avalon owners (RIP Avalon).

My grampa used to drive a 1990 Crown royal saloon 3-litre supercharged. It was a squishy ride but incredibly fast on Tōge in Izu. It was made for the streets in Japan and those who are over 55 and play golf every three days or so. Grampa’s friends drove Cima and Diamante, my parents drove E-class. Crown was the best car among others because I didn't get car sick from Crown. That tells you the best ride.

Toyota also had a Cressida back in the day. The '79 in particular looks great! Btw, Cressida means "a Trojan woman of medieval legend who pledges herself to Troilus but while a captive of the Greeks gives herself to Diomedes", so there.

The more time goes on, the more we realise how much of a masterpiece this intro is.

This is one of the most in depth, involved intro skits you gentlemen have ever done. I love it.

Toyota Crown is huge in Jamaica 🇯🇲, it’s essentially a BMW 5 series here lol

When I was stationed in Japan I bought a J-spec 1990 Crown Royal Saloon. The rear seats were electric and would recline much like an airplane's business class seat does. It had a feature where all the vents would oscillate left to right automatically. For being a 1990, it had and still has more features than most luxury 2020+ cars do. It's sad that our Toyotas here in America are nothing like the Toyotas you find in Japan or the Hyundais in South Korea. BTW my Japanese neighbor told me that those features weere standard in Japan. I told him we had to pay extra for electric seats in the US and he laughed and asked if our cars came standard with the steering wheel.

Karsten's virdography was exceptionally good in this episode. Most frames would make wonderful still images

I am amazed that you guys dug out the history of crown taxi in Hong Kong. When l was young, they only used two brands for taxi in Hong Kong: Toyota crown and Mercedes Benz diesel. Good job.

I saw someone with a crown just randomly in my neighborhood and it struck me on just how nice it looks in person

Gotta say...I don't hate the 2-tone paint, it sets it apart from everything else on the road and gives it some personality.

Here in Japan, the crown is a very popular car. I would say it is the most popular sedan in Japan

I actually really like this style of car for some reason. The big sedan/hatchback/crossover type of cars with some performance really seem like attractive options. I've always liked the Kia Stinger GT for example. I actually like the way this car looks quite a bit more, I just wish they would have given it a v6.
