it doesn't remind them of their mother, it just feels like they're being groomed. same with when we pet them. it's a form to show appreciation with cats which is why they love us so much. touch deprived cats that were abandoned don't feel this when they're alone most of their lives and are abused which is why strays will be defensive when you try to catch them, because they've never seen real love.
