Education and Training Programs
Program participants enroll in a variety of training and education programs that result in an industry recognized certificate or degree. Training programs will take place in a variety of settings and formats. Most training programs take place in traditional classroom settings, and include a period of clinical experience in a workplace setting, and still others will incorporate distance learning strategies. Some education programs will enroll students in cohorts to create a supportive peer environment for learning. All training programs are intended to serve as the initial step on a career ladder allowing the student to begin employment and then pursue more advanced training in related occupations.

Specific training programs differ among schools, all programs are not offered at every one of the participating colleges. However the following 27 programs are included in the HPOG program and offered at one or more schools:
Medical Assistant, Billing & Coding Specialists, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Radiography, Drug and Alcohol Counselor, EKG/Telemetry Technician, Electronic Health Records Specialist, Emergency Medical Technician, Electrodiagnostic Technician, Hemodialysis Technician, Healthcare Dietary Manager, Home Health Aide, Medical Transcription, Nursing Assistant, Nursing/LPN, Nursing/RN, Patient Care Technician, Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Physical Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Therapist, Sterile Processing Technician, Surgical Technologist, and Therapeutic Massage Therapist. New programs are frequently approved so be sure to check the offerings at your school.

Each of the colleges is participating in a study funded by the federal government to determine how these training opportunities help people improve their skills and find better jobs. During the study, eligible applicants will be selected by lottery to participate in these training opportunities. Not all eligible applicants will be selected to participate in these opportunities.
