Really the pick ups is the difference between the 2. Swap the emg's into the squire and locking tuners and you have a gig ready axe.

By looks gotta go with the Fender, as for the tone, the telecaster has a bit more punch to it, so I gotta go with that.

The pickups are definitely the deciding factor, I have a JB on my squier and it’s perfect. You should definitely do a demo with a pickup swap.

My opinion is all over the place on this one. Looks and specs I’m all about the Fender. Tone wise to my ear the low end is darker/warmer with the Squire which I like better, but the high end is so much clearer and cleaner on the Fender. So my end choice is the Fender and replace those actives with some good passive pickups.

You can get the squire in white too, I think it looks better. Me personally I’d get the squire, some Seymour Duncan’s, a graphtec Tusq Nut, Fender bridge and locking tuners, fender switch and pot and a professional setup and still have a couple hundred for a used Boss Katana 50 or utility bill.

For the $1200 (MSRP) you also get:
- $200 (tweed case)
- $200 (EMG 81/60 set)
- $50 (Fender locking tuners)

Personally, if I went the squier rout, I'd be into it +/- $950 before I was happy. $500 (guitar) + $200 (EMG's) +$75 (graphtech saddles) +$60 (fender deluxe gig bag) +$50 (fender locking tuners) + $50 (Nut upgrade at a tech) + $15 (string tree)

And when it was said and done, I just have more trust in the mexico plant that they have a better neck than the chinese squier factory. Anytime I couldn't make it through a song without needing to retune, I'd kick myself for not spending the extra $250 and gotten the MiM.
