Dude for a more secure way of doing it.
1. Get box big enough for beer cans standing up.
2. Get two sheets of cardboard slightly smaller than the inside box.
3. Sit one sheet on top of the other
4. Draw around the cans, evenly spaced
5. Stab a hole on the centre of the circles.
6. Get scissors and cut out to the edge of the circle 1/4 the circle.
This make a flap acting as a can/bottle grip.
7. Fit the cardboard sheets over the top and bottom of the cans.
78.congratulations you have just made perfect fit spaces for your box.

If you use the same type of box all the time them make loads of templates.

Put bubble wrap on the bottom and top of the box and some chips to fill the gaps if you require.

Very cheap and quick way to do it.

Also helps comply with packing standards.

Edit" forgot you can do it with the cans sideways as well. Requires bit more judgement. Once you have it, Make a template, do it over again. Works great for me.

I ziplock 2 to 3 beers then bubble wrap them, just in case!

I like to vacuum seal my bottles or cans for piece of mind, plus a handful of rice to cover up the sound of liquid.
