I love getting dressed up and that's what you generally see from me here on the channel. But there are some real life situations where that isn't practical or advisable. Like, I'm not wearing a tuxedo to play with the dog. And I'm not putting on a suit to lift weights at the gym!

Believe it or not, athleisure and athleisure wear are a part of my style on most days. So if you're mostly used to seeing me in a suit and tie, this video might come as something of a shock to you--especially if you remember my thoughts on athleisure from back in the day! But, men's style is a journey and our personal styles evolve over time. I hope you enjoy this peek inside my "real life" outfits with an athleisure lookbook and Public Rec review.

I love that you could reflect on your past and have a perspective on it.
You are right, style changes as you evolve. I've been interested in menswear since 10 years back now and I would for sure say my style has become more casual over the years.

I started out like many, only wanting to wear suits and ties and while it's a great look its not always fitting. I really enjoy finding casual style and making it look timeless.
Really love to wear shawl cardigans, suede jackets, layering. There is a lot you can play around with on the casual end but still making it look really stylish.

What I love about each article of clothing shown is the fact that not ONE piece screams labels/logo. 👏

I like how you made the effort with those clips of you at the gym, taking out the trash etc... I know how much work it is to make just a couple second clip like that, but it made a big difference to the video! Thanks for making the content you do, I find it informative, inspirational and entertaining :-)

I don’t think I’ll ever like a sport coat-hoodie combo. It makes me flinch hard. Great video tho.

Not convinced Brian - the Public rec stuff is awful! Hoodie under a grey sports coat?? - pull yourself together man!

I think what you said at 0:26 bears repeating, and really resonates with me, both as a 40 y/o and someone who’s settled outside of a major city. I love being conspicuously dressed up for things — when I show up for work without a jacket of some kind, my coworkers wonder if something happened to me! — but life in the suburbs/exurbs really doesn’t allow for opportunities to be formally dressed, and often you’ll stand out in a bad way if you’re not careful. I think evolving your style, especially as you age, is important, and frankly, there’s a lot more artfulness to elevating a casual wardrobe than the dress-by-numbers approach you often need to do for wearing suits for work.

I mean, if you don‘t take out the trash wearing a suit and tie, that‘s entirely on you pal. 🫠🫠🫠

Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this. I’ve been adjusting my look too, from tailoring to casual, without (hopefully) looking sloppy. I think it’s worth saying that there is more at play than an individual style evolution. As much as I love tailoring, the world has changed and I’m not going to wear a suit and tie taking zoom calls from my dining table. I try to find occasions to wear the tailoring I love, but I have to wear something else at other times.

I honestly don't agree with your view, but hey it's nice to hear another point of view. I do believe you are correct that wearing a suit to run a general run at target might be over the top. However, I feel the other spectrum is just as bad. You can look good on any side of the spectrum, and I feel that people don't want to put in the least amount of effort. A pair of chinos 98 cotton or 100 jeans are comfortable enough, i don't see the point of garments that try to give the illusion of something more refained when they simply are not .

What is wrong with a suit in the gym ? That is class. 😊

This reminds me of Dana White and other billionaires like him for that narrative - they didn't need to dress to impress anyone. Than it got pushed down by influencers to everyone who wants to be a billionaire to act and dress like one. Well, this is the reprocussions . 😆

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life, so you bought some sweatpants.” Karl Lagerfeld. I think you’re familiar with the quote, as you sort of mentioned it. A very slippery slope here. I tend to agree with 2015-you. The pants are nice but this is still very very casual clothing. I believe the (sorry) trend has been revived with the hideous work-from-home culture, where we all dress in “elevated” pajamas for the entire work week. 🤦‍♂️ Fine for taking out the trash, hiding from the paparazzi and … that’s it. Please, let’s keep it that way.

Could you also try the British brand 'Rohan' sometime? It's a very old brand and the OG in athleisure.

Love the concept, I’ve been trying to level up my “normal” day style

Love your thoughts on the Apple watch! I'm a watch guy too, and was always interested in getting an Apple watch, but i could never figure out what the "killer app" is for the watch that provides the value I want to get one.

I think athleisure, when done right, looks really nice. Also, it's comfortable. When I'm dressed up, I am always conscious about what I'm doing, my posture, etc, which gets tiring. When I'm in athleisure, I am far less conscious of things and more relaxed. However, one of the things I don't really like about it is that it's very common, and i don't really like to be in similar outfits with most others.

I like #4 the most because of the colours and the balance in the outfit. #5 is nice too, but the hoodie isn't for me personally. And I would avoid mixing dressy clothes with athleisure looks for myself.

A hoodie with a sport coat? Looks like someone terribly confused between the frat house, and their first business meeting. Sorry to be so blunt, but no guy over 25 should ever wear a hoodie.
