First of all, let me say what we can ALL agree on...APC is amazing and Maynard is a musical genius!!! 🙌 Now, what I'm going to say is likely going to piss alot of people off...and I'm ok with that. I have always absolutely loathed the original version of this song. For me, it reads as a communist manifesto masquerading as a message of peace. As a Christian and an American Patriot, I do not subscribe to communist ideology. That being said, I do realize we are not a world of only Christians or Americans, but for me personally, this is my point of view of the song lyrically. However, APC has turned this classic into such a beautiful cover. It's uncomfortably haunting. I love this version so much! For me, musically, it captures the darkness of my personal interpretation of the lyrics. APC has taken a classic and morphed it into something that leaves me feeling somewhat saddened, disturbed, and haunted at the same time. I love this band and I love this version! ❤ I am fully aware that most people who read this will not share my perspective, but I wanted to put it out there. I'm all for peace, love and unity, but I believe that begins with respecting the opinions and beliefs of ALL people. Not just the ones who have the same opinions and beliefs and/or fall in line with conformity. We should never tolerate being told what to think, believe, or feel..no matter what. We have to listen to each other, without judgment or contempt, but with an open heart and open mind. A musical masterpiece such as this is so powerful and regardless of personal interpretation, it ignites a longing for inclusion....and that's a truly beautiful thing. ❤ To whomever this may offend, perhaps my message was meant for you.
