Dave Bautista wanted to be BANE

When Dave Bautista played Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, it was a big break for his career, and he was widely loved as the character.

It was on that movie where he first worked with Director James Gunn. Now that James has moved to the DC Universe, he’s been thinking a lot about potential characters that he could play, and one in particular stands out.

This of course, is Bane. Although this is a very popular fan casting, Dave is now 55 years old, and he’s been prioritising his health, and losing a lot of weight. He thinks he no longer has the physicality for what's needed to do justice to the character, despite being a dream role of his for many years.

Dave says he would be happy to play any role, so long as it was a major character and that he got chance to work with James again.

I'm glad that Dave is prioritizing health over keeping the muscles on. As you get older, you quickly realize that the hardest part of lifting is joint pain. Some guys are just lucky and they can keep lifting with little joint pain.

The way he looks at the present time, I would go with Hugo Strange. He has the acting range. He’s not as jakked as he used to be but he’s still tall as hell and menacing. I can see it happening

I was thinking about this. Dave is thinner now. What about martian manhunter? Hes similar yet different. Hes an alien who may not understand human things but is really wise and articulate at times. He shape shifts so he wont need to be in makeup all the time or depending on CGI at all (remember thanos CGI looked great). The character also is not as big. I like dave I hope he finds a good role.

It's very refreshing to see his humility? So many former wrestlers and fighters (rhonda lol) have their heads so far up their own asses. I like that Dave is happy to pass up on bane and try something else. Never was a fan of him as a wrestler because he was after my time, but he seems like an OK person.

Aside from perfectly being Marcus Phoenix from GOW and Bane, James Gunn will have to bring another perfect character for Dave to play in the new DC universe.
