Este video no me canso de verlo y oírlo, la voz de Rita es verdaderamente excepcional y más a la edad que tenía en ese entonces, creo 13 años, sin duda, lo mejor que ha tenido Chamorro en su grupo.

I am Brazilian. The work these young singers are showing is astounding.T his singer captures the very essence of this song, and she demonstrates this in the timbre, body movement, choice of tone, in every detail. Desafinado is a prank, sort of. Tom Jobim, one of the persons least out of tune on the planet, sings a song about a poor out-of-tune soul, who begs to be respected because "even an out-of-tune being does have a heart". Or "I photographed you with my Rolleiflex, and what we could see was your absolute ingratitude". It is humor at its best, and she gets it, and sings it. In bossa nova, the language, the sweet Brazilian Portuguese version of our common language, (Portugal´s Portuguese is beautiful in a very, very different way, and it would never work in bossa nova because bossa nova is all about joie de vivre, something our Portuguese brothers and sisters have less training for) IS part of the music. Our syllables are notes, and it really does not work in any other language, and that is why they go through the effort of singing in ours. Well, I would say the result is adorable, and it adds to our comprehension of our language. I love their interpretation of our consonants, and an surprised that our nasals, "ão" sounds present such a barrier to speakers of Catalan, or Spanish. And this means absolutely nothing, compared to the result they get. It is the song, in its intention, and brilliantly executed. I am Sprachloss!!!

I thank Antonio C Jobim, S. Mendes, Joao and Astrud Gilberto and all others who left this legacy for Humanity to enjoy and share. And to this quintet too, of course. Thanks, and the Gods Bless.

Joan Chamorro is probably the best thing that has happened in music in the last 30 years. Love you brother, Jim Lochead..

I don't get it. I'm 72-years old, and I just can't fathom where these young performers get this kind of talent... their degree of technique, their depth of feeling, and to so easily keep up with these world-class players, it's just beyond my imagination. When I was a teenager, I was getting busted by the cops for being high on LSD.
In the city where I live, rap music is king, but it is just pathetic garbage being sold as "music." It isn't. THIS is music. When I die, I can rest easy, knowing that music is in good hands.

This is a killer rendition. Rita is so rhythmically inventive, breathing new life into something in danger of becoming a musical cliche, and as only a young new musical soul can. Props to Joan Chamorro for being a serial nurturer of young jazz talent, first with Andrea Motis (see her admirable Desafinado when she was Rita's age, classic, mature), then Rita and a string of others after. Props also to Scott Hamilton, clearly having a great time, and causing Joan to call out appreciatively in the middle of his solo.

Rita's career starts on a high here and just goes up.

Rita's voice is so fresh and confident, the best cover ever! (I still listen almost daily). Still can't believe she was around 14 years old at that time

I am Japanese. While searching for Someday My Prince Will Come on youtube, I encountered Joan Chamorro quintet. I like JAZZ but it became comfortable as soon as I heard it. Today was a very good day.

Rita´s phrasing is audacious but she is getting away with it because it´s brilliant. I wanted to see her in Germany this year but because of Coraina I couldn´t find any one to drive. May be next year? I have been playing bossa nova for fourty years now and it is not getting boring at all. Thanx a lot dear
