I keep coming back to this song with so much admiration for the songwriting and production. It's such a rare topic to sing about, too-- the fallibility of fame and it's malicious claws. I think about Beyonce shortly after releasing her song Church Girl, and then Cynthaia Erivo (a friend of Laura who had a similar look for a while) having a rise to fame from Wicked, and how often women, especially black women, are pinned against one another in the music industry-- and how systemic racism and misogyny haunts us all through it. Laura made such an incredible pop hit about a topic so infrequently overlooked by the pop world. I just hope Laura feels appreciated for her craft, her work, her dedication, and her solid politics and faith she brings with. Thank you Laura for your art and music!
