War movies from the 1960s were more convincing than today's movies as many of the cast were war Veterans from WW2, hence to a great extent, their acting was sure to be convincing.

It's absolutely true that German Army generals wore the red stripes on their trousers but also officers I earlier in the war on general staff wore the red stripes.

The novel on which the Movie is based is written by Hans Helmut Kirst. The book was more thrilling than the movie itself.

In the movie, Gen. Tanz goes from wearing a Heer uniform to a SS uniform. Any explanations?
