People make way worse art titles for clicks. I feel like people are just being overdramatic bc they assume she has to be this sweet innocent person and can't joke a lil more harshly. It's really not that serious

she and other people actually made jokes in the comment section about how her titles used to be super sweet and gentle and HOW TO MAKE UR OC NOT SUCK was just so in your face an attention grabbing. i like it.

My thoughts after watching her video were entirely positive. Coming from the context of a storyteller imma have to say all lavandertownes points DID make sense. She wasn’t trying to make people limit their creativity. She was trying to give people some guidelines to better channel it in a more productive direction.

She writes stories. That’s what she does. She’s not talking about drawing a person here. she’s talking about what makes a charachter seem like a 3d person in a story. And how to tell a story with a character or illustration.

Remeber an oc doesen’t have to be illustrated to be an oc. It’s an “original character” no more no less.

I get how her diagrams could be confusing, but if you’re writing a book with no visual aspects whatsoever I’m not exactly sure a dynamic pose applies??? Of course a person who likes painting listening to music and soccer would be more compelling than somone who just solely plays soccer. It feels more realistic.

She’s talking about charachter design not character drawing.

The “not having a character sheet with 30 million different things your character likes” for example. In many ways I see this as a usefull tip. Of course you can do it if it’s fun, but from a perspective of a writer it’s just inefficient. These details might not show up in your story and so until they are relevant, you don’t NEED them. It’s fun to know them sure, but you dontneed that info to make the character compelling.

It’s not that it’s “wrong” it’s just something people don’t 100% need to spend their time on to make it a good character or write a good story.

I hope you feel better soon! I love making lists for my characters. I have one that is actual information and one that I'm working on now that it just for the fun of it lol

It just content, I think people are being a bit sensitive. It's not like she's telling people the "dos and donts" of character and oc creating. Whether is was for clicks or not (maybe LavenderTowne needed to feed her village 😌) but she's also making content to help people get some ideas maybe something they really agree with that they like, maybe something they don't like(but they don't need to use that *idea* ) it's like a reference 👍

imo, giving tips and tricks to help improve art/characters/etc. is valid and awesome but going "THIS is the right way and THAT is the wrong way" is just really not it. I've seen a lot of 'art tips' on pinterest with the stupid green check and red X basically telling people what the right way to draw things is and it sucks. let people draw how they want???? and not say that doing things a certain way is inherently wrong?? besides, some things that look good in one style may not look great at all in another. it really just depends. and even if someone's style isn't perfect so what?? all that really matters is if someone likes their art and is comfortable with the way their art looks (speaking from personal experience)

I think most of the issues the creator had were only because obv Lavendertowne has to exaggerate her characters bad or good because she wants to teach, OF COURSE its too much sometimes, but she didnt force you or even told you you had to do exactly that

i'm starting to think ppl are targeting her for not being problematic. like they're splitting hairs trying to find something to cancel her for cuz there's no way someone can be THAT unproblematic.

"To show that it wasn't the clothing I gave this fella no clothes."

😅 Yeah, those dynamic poses really do help.

9:15 while yes the vibes are very different, from what I remember from the video she said that she decided to pile up a lot of the imperfections on the design, so i don’t think that critique is valid

I think on the first point she only illustrated the dude on the right the way she did to put a point across. Of course the drawing is going to look better in a more dynamic pose, but that isn't her point. It's that when writing a character it's important to give them more than one thing they do. That's where her point starts and stops. The drawing just goes with it. Of course that does have its limits (depending on how unimportant the character may be, then fleshing out an entire character sheet with their job and hobbies might be unnecessary and a waste of time) but otherwise it's generally a good tip.
