Clear as MUD. Yukon notes: Use GL5 mineral oil. Detriot Trutrac: Use mineral GL5 with no LSD FM. Video= "Synthethics work great". Im just going to use Supertech Dino for the first 500 mile break-in and then Mobil Delvac afterwards...

At 3:50 he says synthetic gear oil is ok for helical limited slips but USA Standard Gear recommends petroleum base oils for their Spartan Helical limited slips ("Recommended gear oil: Non-synthetic 80W-90 GL-5")

Some of the details shared in this video are really helpful even beyond talking about lsd's and lockers... I was having the hardest time finding information on the differences between GL-1, GL-3, GL-4, and GL-5. My 1950 Ford tractor requires GL-1, but I wanted to understand if there are advantages to the other types of gear oil and anything to watch out for.. An additional layer of complexity is the gear oil is shared between the transmission, rear end, and hydraulic pump.

I usually use full synthetic gear oil with a bottle of friction modifier in just about every axle. I figure not to many people change their trucks gear oil to often. So the good stuff should last longer with better protection. Most trucks I work on are stock Fords chevy toyota and jeeps.

I just had 383 Yukon gears put in my 1986 Corvette Dana 44 ? What gear oil is best for the brand new Yukon gears?

I changed gear oil in Manual Santro 6 months ago it was yellowish brown and i changed it again yesterday it came out same yellowish brown.. Used GL4 both times. I think someone 5 years ago put differential fluid in the gear box which has erroded the metal badly.. i couldn't find metal type and gear type specifications on internet. Its Santro 2007 model...

What do you use if you have a transaxle with a clutch type limited slip? With the same oil being shared between the synchronized transmission and the diff?

Why is it a company secret on how much friction additive to add. It doesn't say on Yukon's LSD product specific web pages, it's not on the additive page, it's not friction additive label. NADA! What a clown show - Yukon recommends their product but can't tell you how much to add. Oh, you can ask their customer service if you're lucky enough to get through during their banker's hours. Clown Show!
