"To me, Japanese isn't a game of learning abstract information for no particular reason. It's a language that for the most part we can learn in a natural manner"
This is so beautiful... YOU ARE THE BEST SENSEI

1:43 "if you're worrying about na-adjectives, as they are called, don't worry. They're nouns."
She just unleashes these absolute hissatsu with the affect of someone relaying simple trivia. She was too powerful, I can't believe I'm just now discovering her! 😭

When i watch these vids for the 1st time, they seem quite confusing but when I rewatch them 2-3 times, they make sense more than anything

I've been studying Japanese for about six months properly, and have focussed mostly on learning kanji thus far. My reading has improved a lot, and I could pick out words and phrases, but I couldn't understand how to construct any sentences because there didn't seem to be any clear explanation of the logic behind this structure. Every time I watch the next video in this series something else clicks into place and I feel like I can understand (and say) far more. These are amazing, and have unlocked things that haven't made any sense at all from other methods, so thank you.

"-na" adjectives are similar to "-ing" in English.
You can't tack "-ing" onto every word, but it's a frequent way to turn a noun into an adjective.
There is some difference in that '-ing' can also turn into verbs, and is somewhat arbitrary. But the concept is similar. It's a way of transforming nouns to adjectives.

It’s a shame this lady passed away but the first lesson she had, it was in an easy to understand manner. It was telling us the truth about the language that many other language teachers just tell us “just remember it” and don’t have a grasp on the English that they’re teaching from; or they rely on appeal of being Japanese to carry them through.

It’s bad teaching because it fails to make the complex simple. And because of that, this teacher excels at helping so many.

God bless this woman.

Rest in peace.

Wow, Dolly-Sensei, mind blown!! As a linguist, I'm really loving this approach to the Japanese grammar. It speaks to me in a way that other videos and textbooks haven't. I've been studying for three years, so I've begun to grasp some of these points instinctively, but your descriptions and the graphics are really helping me solidify my understanding. If I had seen your videos earlier, it wouldn't have taken me years to figure out things that you explain in under 10 minutes. I'm so glad I found your channel. Yay!!

"We can use entire verb sentences as adjectivals if we want to, and this happens very often."
Thank you. This was something I was noticing and I'm glad you cleared up all doubts surrounding it.

It blows my mind how simple you have made this language seem compared to every other resource I've seen.

*Glitch warning:* The う-Engine at 3:18 should be a だ-Engine.
The worksheet for this lesson and the answers sheet are both now up (links below). They are on my Patreon, but currently you don't need to be a patron to access them. The worksheet is cumulative, using and practicing the things we have learned up to this point in order to make Japanese sentences.

If you don't mind me asking, what brought you to learn Japanese? You not only learned Japanese, but have a deep understanding of the language, I imagine your story would be interesting. Perhaps a video could be made detailing the adventures in your life surrounding this topic?

I remember watching these first lessons like four months ago and not understanding much but now everything seems clear, it just takes time to fully grasp Japanese grammar structure, I still have a long way to go but I'm glad I can see some progress.

I've been trying to learn Japanese for a pretty long time now but have always been confused and scared away by all the different explanations for the grammar that I've found resulting in me not having progressed much at all in the past few years. However, after discovering your channel today a lot of things got cleared up and I'm actually feeling like I'm going to get somewhere now. I love the bite sized videos/lessons that don't make it feel overwhelming combined with easy to understand, to the point explanations and examples. Thanks a lot!
