I'm pretty sure the hole in the clip isn't for a lanyard, it's to get around the pivot screws if you decide to carry it tip down.
Also, I really want the K390 Stretch 2 that's upcoming.

I love k390, in my opinion if you don’t have edge chipping issues with what you tend to cut and if corrosion isn’t an issue where you live, k390 is the PERFECT steel. By the way I make custom knives, know way too much about steel and have had 4 different spydercos in k390. Also have made a few blades in k390, I can certainly tell you this stuff is something else

Pretty sure they used that clip with the hole in it so if someone wanted to carry it tip down it would clear the pivot hardware...

Finally a review of this. I pre ordered mine way back in june or july of 2020. Finally got it in early march 2021. I carry it every day but its not the edc that i use, so i can't speak about the k390. I got it mainly just because I've always loved the spyderco police. I can definitely tell it's not stainless just from flicking it open and closed all the time, the oils from my fingers. Just keep it clean and dry and rusting should never be a problem. The k390 did come razor sharp. The bevel isn't as perfectly even as my american made spydercos but it's still pretty good. This is my 3rd spyderco police. Unfortunately i missed out on the police 4 g10 k30. I really wanted that one.

About the hole on the clip. Even if the knife has no lanyard hole, the hole in the clip has a purpose. When set up for tip down carry, the pivot pin is accessible through the hole.

I love K390 and this knife specifically. I have a Dragonfly in K390 and it has developed rust spots. I have put rust preventive lubricant on it since. If I keep in mind that I live in a hot environment and I tend to sweat a lot. So there's definitely sweat on the blade on occasion.

I use them all the time and I have not had to sharpen them once. If I feel the edge going at all I just run it over the ceramic rod on my work Sharp Field sharpener and then strop it. Good as new.

That's one of the things I like about Spyderco, they have a good selection of unique & high performance steels. I got the K390 Police 4 about a month ago when White Mountain Knives had them in stock & it's huge for sure, even longer blade than the Military & Manix 2 XL. Interesting to see how your keychain knife has held up after an entire year of usage MC.

Im so glad you mentioned the steel liner. No one ever brings that up on the reviews the only way I was able to confirm this was reading the description off Spyderco website

I’ve owned a lot of Spyderco knives and this is one of my all time favorites!!!

First things I did on my Endela w K390 is puttin a sharpening choil with a dremel cutting wheel, then polishing to 12k, patinated with ballistol nerofor, then sharpen on resinbonded 12k. Sharpen on spyderco 306UF as well! But rusts. So it doesn't beat MagnaCut

I think the "lanyard hole" actually has something to do with the pivot incase you wanted to carry tip down.

My all time favorite EDC is my g10 Police 4 in k390 reground to .007bte. Literally a pocket light saber. I love it.

This knife and the k390 endura are my cardboard destroyers. Due to their blade thinness and length, they eat up cardboard with machine-like efficiency. A lot is made of this knife’s size and to be honest, yes…it’s big. But it’s not egregiously huge and unnecessary. It’s *definitely* very useful and not as difficult to carry as you’d think. I liked this and the endura enough that I immediately got micarta scales on them. These knives in micarta are just about as good as it gets for spyderco backlocks. The entire series, really…the stretch is KIND OF a smaller version of this knife if you’re looking to keep the choil. The blade is even thinner, too…

I've been carrying this version for about 5 months, and I didn't notice the lack of lanyard hole/clip until it was mentioned here.

As far as big pocket knives go, the Police 4 is pretty modestly sized if I'm being honest. And I'd have liked to see it compared against the Delica rather than the PM series as it's more of an oversized Delica. I have it in VG10 and its the perfect EDC for me. I'm a big guy with big hands and 3 inch blades often feel diminutive while not offering a full grip on the handles. In contrast, the Police 4 looks proportional in my hands and there's more than enough handle to get a grip on. It also falls nicely within my area's knife carry laws, being under 4.75 inches and manually opening/closing. Whether I'm out hunting, at work, or walking around town, the Police 4 Lightweight is always there and reliable.

Absolutely love mine. I’ve never seen this much blade in such a light, thin package. The edge retention is incredible. I’ve noticed a slight amount of surface corrosion on the blade if I fail to wipe it down at the end of the day but that’s the only downside I found so far. You will get a lot of alarmed looks if you pull it out of your pocket and open it with a Spidey drop though, (I just love doing that).

I really want this but been holding out for the stretch 2 k390. It's super tempting though! Not sure if you have already but if not you should check out the pakkawood HAP40/SUS410 police 4. I was given one as a gift and had never heard of the steel. Man it's GREAT! Preforms as well as my natural g10 m4 940 if not BETTER! The pakkawood scales are beautiful. It usually is clipped on my tree climbing gear and hasn't needed sharping in the year or so I've had it. Yeah it definitely has a thin slicey blade that works GREAT! I definitely think you would like it. It is a little pricey for a police 4 though in my opinion. The un common premium steel makes up for it a little though.

I love my police 3 in vg-10 and black g-10 scales, so I couldn’t resist buying this version the moment I learned of its existence

I am a fan of K390 but the Endela is large enough for me. I've been using a K390 Dragonfly as a daily for just around the house and I can vouch for the edge retention. I have been waiting on the wharncliffe Delica in this steel for months, which will become my daily.
My Endela started a showing patina just sitting in the storage pouch and it's not particularly moist in my house so I'd say expect some level of patina unless you keep it oiled, which seems impractical for a carry blade.

thats precisely what I bought mine for: Process wood on the go. And boy, still sharp as fuck after making feathersticks in hard ass core wood of firelogs that have been dried for years.

Recommendable. One thing: take a utility knife and remove the burr on the FRN. Improves the ergos A TON. Also strops back nicely on 1um polydiamond from Jende. No toy but a tool.
