Brewing up Lists with Warcry 2.0

How do we make competitive lists in Warcry 2.0? There are no tournaments and very few test games to go off of, so I took a look at some fundamental theories of where the points balance changed in 2.0, and made lists intended to exploit the differences. The result was 12 incredibly varied lists that are all either competitive or sweet.

Continuing to love the content!

I work at an LGS on the north side of Nashville and we will be hosting a "Welcome (back) to Warcry" event next weekend. We will be having veterans and new players alike, so it will be interesting to see how both groups approach list building in this edition. We also have the store OP kit that GW sent out to stockist locations, so I intend on hosting that even in about a month.

If you are interested in knowing some of the results coming out of either event, shoot me a message! We will continue to build our community and see how the new edition effects our player base.

Cheers!

Great to compare what you’re thinking to what I’ve been thinking! Good luck at both your tournaments - may all YOUR rolls be crits!

It´s cool that you started doing more lists and suggestions with allies.Lists with fighters only from that faction only make sence for the start of a campaign. You got some points on your thoughts!

Okay 'Cryers I just ran a second solo game using a Darkoath Savager, x2 God-Speakers, monster-based list: Slaughterborn, x2 God-Speaker, Gloryseeker w Spear x2, Gloryseeker w Paired Weapons, Chimera = x7 fighters, 1000 points. I used a modified version of Dan's Beasts of Chaos list: Bloodkine with Great Axe, Centigor, Foe-Render, x2 Ungors w/ spears and x2 Goes w Paired Weapons, plus a Mindstealer Sphiranx for a fast-mover with a net ability; I also thought the Sphiranx's reaction might help defend against Grab and Maul. The Mission was Steal the Prize (haven't played it before; BTW I only have v1 Core Book missions) and the Deployment was Blood Rush. Same fairly terrain-dense set-up as before: the set-up for the 1st Convergence Battle for Tide of Fire (page 107 of the core book). The Beasts won the roll-off and chose defender (which may have been a mistake - my assumption was that if the DOS were the defenders then their carrier would run to a corner with lots of open space and then the Chimera would fly in, block access, and pummel anyone who tried to fight their way through). The DOS got lucky on the first priority roll and got a natural triple and a double giving them x2 triples for Visions of Glory. The Chimera one-shotted a blocking Centigor before the Sphiranx shut it down for the rest of Turn 1. But on Turn 2, having +5 saved wild dice from TWO Turn 1 Visions of Glory gave it plenty of Grab and Mauls and a TRIP 6 Grab and Maul and some very good (but not unbelievable) dice meant the 35-wound Bloodkine was ONE-SHOTTED!!! (12 damage on the ability and 25 damage on the attack...) On Turn 3, the saved wild dice ensured DOS had initiative and the Chimera was able to fly over and land within 6" of a now-wounded Sphiranx and throw a TRIP 4 Grab and Maul - between the ability damage and the attack roll it easily finished off the Sphiranx. There were a couple of Gors who could have tried to pick up the treasure token but it was essentially surrounded and nothing could shut down the Chimera so I called it. Again, the Chimera was TRULY a monster. I would say the DOS monster list had a good deal of luck on its side and, as a result, it was a debacle for the Beasts of Chaos - but even with less favorable dice I still think the DOS would have won handily.

I have a feeling high defense and 2 inch reach in combination is gonna be strong now. Rolling lots of weak attacks and hoping for crits is scary now with counter. Its a risk just to attack them. Especially with how squishy the already squishy units are now.

Was watching a Battle Report on another channel and they were using Flesheater Courts. At one point they stopped the game because they realized the written rule for "Bringer of Death" seems to need an errata.

[Triple] Bringer of Death: Until the
end of the battle round, add the value of
this ability (rounding up) to the Move
characteristic of friendly fighters while
they make a move action that starts within
6" of this fighter.

"Add the value of this ability rounding up" only makes sense if it's "add HALF the value of this ability rounding up." I know a lot of people are wanting to ally in FEC heroes solely for this ability and we may all be getting hoodwinked. It's powerful but maybe not as powerful as we think. So either the "rounding up" is an error or they forgot to make it "half" the value. What do you think?

WHAT A GREAT VIDEO I like your thinking although I bet you lose to one of those lists a Nova ;) but a least you will be a proud papa

I don't think that FEC move buff will stand for a long time. They definitely made an error with this skill, as there is still info about rounding up the value.

RE: Monster-based lists. I just ran one (solo): Darkoath Savagers vs Khorne Bloodbound on a fairly terrain-dense set-up (the set-up for the 1st Convergence Battle for Tide of Fire, age 107 of the core book). The mission was The Raid (haven't played before) and the Deployment was Decapitate. Khorne won the roll-off (lucky) and chose attacker (which I think made the difference). The lists were ; KBB: Shield Bloodsecretor, Nightleader (Ally: Skaven), Bloodreaver x2, Dagger Chimera and Hammer Bloodreaver x3. DOS: Shield Slaughterborn (leader), Sloppily Bilepiper and God-Speaker, Dagger: Slaughterborn, Wrathtouched and Gloryseeker and Hammer: Wrathtouched and Gloryseeker x2. It was a hard-fought game but in the end I don't think the DOS had any chance of not leaving an objective in KBB control each turn. The Chimera was TRULY a monster. Even losing 3" of movement to Entangling Ropes on turn 2 it had plenty of movement to allow for positioning that giant base and Drag and Maul is really-good board control for an objective mission and with x6, S6 attacks doing 5/10 damage it will one-shot kill ANYTHING with 25 words or less within 2". The interesting thing is with x3 activations a round but only one action at a time, elevated terrain, which it will NEVER fit on (base must be WHOLLY on a platform) is a bit tricky bc with only a single action you can't climb it, attack and then fall off. Monstrous Reach for a Double is somewhat helpful but with only two ability dice sets per round, my KBB were a little ability starved. I think a Chimera + God-Speaker combo with a high-value triple for Visions of Glory in turns one and two could be, well... insane: Slaughterborn, God-Speaker, Wrathtouched, Gloryseeker w Spear x2, Gloryseeker w Paired Weapons, Chimera = x7 fighters, 1000 points. (One could conceivably run x2 God-Speakers to keep a steady supply of Visions of Glory. IME, normally VoG is useless after turn 2 but with a monster conceivably using up to x3 abilities a turn... I think I'll test that next against one of Dan's lists from this video!)

I would still love see your thoughts on a Tzeentch Daemons list. They are so elite I'm having a hard time building them out. I love Pink Horrors and I think I want 3 in the list? But then I can fit like 6-7 models max if I'm trying to take some flamers or a screamer. I don't know, I just don't want to bring any Blues or Brimstone because its not taking full advantage of split. And for Rotmire Creed, I feel like the shielded variant is better than that double weapon variant for the chaff. You get an extra toughness, an extra inch reach, and one extra crit damage, for 10 more points and 1 less attack. Am I crazy in thinking this? I kind've want to build them all shielded. Even though I'm still probably just going to go rule of cool and build each one whichever weapon combo looks best on the model.

Cool video, though the judicator prime with boltstorm crossbow is 230 pts now, not 225, which means your 2nd lists is 1005 pts

You made an almost identical list that I’m bringing to Nova Open! Not telling which one ;/)

Since you bring up that 'free action' abilities are some of the most powerful things you can do, would it be ridiculous to max chuck in a slakeslash as well into a list? Something along the lines of this:
1x Slake-Horn (leader) 225
1x Slakeslash 195
2x Slaangor Fiendblood 350
1x Hadzu 110
1x Glisette 105
1x Twinsoul w/ Lash 110
Total 995

or maybe triple up on the lashes and get rid of glisette and hadzu?

I play casually. However, Soulblight running vampire lord, wight king, necromancer and grave guards seem pretty strong. They bogged down Stormcast and beat the pants off Khorne mortals.

How about Khorne Bloodhound? Do you have some strong list ?

I'm having a really hard time with Daemons of Khorne. Used to be easy but all their point increases really hurt the flexibility of their list building.

Hey Dan, RE: monster-based lists... I was just looking at the monster hunter abilities that your opponent automatically gets if you put a monster in your list - they seem like they would reduce a monster's effectiveness pretty substantially if your opponent spent some ability dice on them in the first turn. What's your opinion on what their effect would be?
