You're a Grand Old Flag -- [Rare American patriotic song] -- (1906)
Показать описание
-History:
You're a Grand Old Flag is a song first Written in 1906 by George M. Cohan. Cohan was apparently inspired when talking to a Civil war veteran who fought at Gettysburg. The veteran reportadly said: "You're a grand old rag" whilst holding a carefully folded old flag in his hands. This line inspired Cohan to write the lyrics for this song with the title "You're a Grand Old Flag", yet when the song was officially released, he tried to change the lyrics and title to "You're a Grand Old Rag". He was too late. The song became too popular quickly and many singers like 'Billy Murray' (Who sang this version) already released their take on the song with the first lyrics.
The song contains a lot of references and lines from other patriotic American marches/songs. These are songs like 'Dixieland' and 'Marching through Georgia', but also songs like 'Auld Lang Syne' wich is actually of Scottish origin. All these songs you can find on my channel aswell.
