Показать описание
The town Vilhelmina Sweden is a fairy tale town has its origins in the new building Volgsjö which was built in the 1770s.We spent a A Day in fairy tale town Vilhelmina.
Vilhelmina kyrkby became a church town in 1916, but in 1921 a serious fire ravaged the town and more than half of the church town disappeared. It was on the morning of September 5, 1921 that the fire started in one of the cottages south of Storgatan. The fire quickly took hold in the old timber walls and spread at a furious pace from house to house. [ 9 ] The fire was also accelerated by throwing furniture, utensils and other objects between the houses, which in turn ignited and carried the fire further. In the fight against this sea of fire, only three smaller fire extinguishers were available. At five o'clock in the afternoon, it could be stated that just over 50 buildings south of Storgatan had burned to the ground. In the investigation that was made, it was concluded that the fire was caused by a defective chimney wall.
The remaining church cottages on the north side of Storgatan began to decay and something must be done if the culturally and historically valuable buildings could be saved for posterity. Therefore, Vilhelmina municipality began in the 1960s to buy in the old houses to bring about a restoration, which was completed in 1975. From having only served as private homes and business premises, they now also established room rentals for temporary overnight stays. At present, Vilhelmina municipality has begun a further refurbishment of the church town area.
