My plug for nebula is that the extended version is almost an hour long and mostly consists of Devin stating an opinion about how he thinks criminal trials should go and Spencer telling him he's wrong.

Here's a PSA you never thought you'd need: If you find yourself facing murder charges, you do *_NOT_* want to go for an insanity plea .. even if you are insane. If you weren't insane, you will be after a few years in the facility they put you in, which I promise will be worse than prison.

Realistic or not, I still get chills when he starts clapping. Just perfectly played by Norton.

The ending of the film actually blew my mind and I was in awe of Edward Norton, when I first saw it as a big kid.

18:38 "did you know? It can." got me rolling. That was fantastic.

It's really gratifying to see content that educates people about processes that are so opaque and so misunderstood, largely based on dramatic stories that make for good theater, but can lead to really dangerous lack of actual understanding about how the law works.

hey, as someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder, thank you for getting the terminology right in the popup on screen! this movie is really cool to watch but also does so many things that're harmful to people with DID, and most still think it's called MPD, so it means a lot to see something corrected from the movie (even in a subtle way).

I'm no lawyer but it seems to me like the prosecutor made so many career ending moves. She basically mocked the expert witness, and her opinions. She was badgering Stampler and whatever it's called when you try to argue for a conclusion yourself.

I'd forgotten the legend Andre Braugher was in this movie and so young. Thanks for the reaction!

When they were talking about motive it reminded me of an experience I had. I was on a jury for a murder case. And one of the jurors got super hung up on motive. "Why did he do it? What was his motive?" It was basically one drug dealer killing another drug dealer. The rest of us were like "dude, it doesn't matter, but there are all kinds of possible reasons." In the end we had to let the guy go because of a lack of evidence so it really didn't matter.

1:11 The guy is already checked in at the prison. They would have checked his credentials at the front desk. The prison guards inside aren't really there for that...

20:45 I actually would have loved to hear their reaction\opinion to that scene. What would\should a lawyer do if they find out their client was playing the court like that...

The casting in this movie was absolutely insane! Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Andre Braugher, John Mahoney, Maura Tierny, and Edward Freakin Norton in his first-ever feature-length project 🤯

I saw this movie when it came out in 1997, and I certainly didn't find the idea of a child abuser priest new at all, even back then. Long before Spotlight, there were huge scandals around child molester priests in Canada that had become universal knowledge. There was even a Canadian TV movie about a pedophile priest called the Boys of St Vincent's that had come out. That's why I found the shock around the Spotlight reporting so weird. This was all old news!

Back when this was made, a priest being scum was the shocking twist of a movie. Nowadays, the murdered priest not being scum would be the shocking twist.

Before subscribing to Legal Eagle I would’ve thought nothing of the Defense looking around bewildered when the book and it’s transcription were presented on the stand.

Now I’d definitely point at the screen and exclaim “There’s no way they didn’t know about that through Discovery!” 😆

Gaius Baltar Trial in Battlestar Galactica. You can understand the entire case without the series bias. Solely based on the episode. The only way for you to be impartial if you does not watch the series.

Hilarious to hear Devin say that Marines can be really dumb, and then the zoom in on Spencer's Face XD

I've seen lawyers have whole cases thrown out based on prosecution's attempt to use previously undisclosed evidence. How to make a judge mad lol.
