In the 80s, a remarkable rivalry unfolded in the world of boxing when four outstanding champions in adjacent weight classes competed to determine the best, engaging in nine bouts among themselves. Tommy was a class act. His opponent died in a motorcycle accident, and he gave the title belt to his mother. I grew up near Detroit, so I would always be rooting for him. He wasn't a show boat. He was always business in the ring. He gave the Motor City something to look forward to every fight.
